Smalalltalk Sm ltalk

f you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading” Said Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher.

And of course, in typical ‘him and her’ style, lots has changed this month. Maybe it was all the full moons we’ve been having, or the feeling of spring and fresh starts over Easter but there have been lots of talk and planning over the last few weeks both at home and work that have resulted in us all ending up in a state of perturbation. Sean wrote recently about his thoughts which were: “to grow strong we need pressure … Ilya Prigegine won the Nobel Science prize for his work on the subject he called Perturbation. The boiling water example; when pressure is applied (heat) we keep on going until we feel ourselves pushed to the limit (simmering). At this point you are perturbed and you have one of two choices - stay under pressure (on the stove), or get out and relax again (off the stove). Most run from any pressure and therefore never grow. If you stay in the pressure, which is good, you will perturb more and more until in a split second you break through (boil). When you do POP through you will release energy E-MOTION, energy in motion (steam) and it could be tears, laughter, anger etc. With negative or downward pressure, the whole team blows out and it’s not good, Positive or goal stretching pressure from the top, eventually growth will happen..... “ So here we are, a bit like a boiling pot on the stove, bubbling away. A few things have boiled over and others are still in there, rabbit like, waiting to be stewed and then savoured. And some of our bubbles have floated to the top and sailed away. One of these was Janet, our saleslady, who has settled into new pastures at the Directory Group (01730 260746) in Petersfield. She’ll have a ball there, we feel sure, so do get in touch with her if you have any advertising needs in the Emsworth to Alresford area. Until next month, Much love

Life Matters at St Mary’s

ALVERSTOKE PARISH IS YOURS In the UK we all live in a parish… What is a parish? In the UK an ecclesiastical parish is the geographical area served by an anglican parish church. Where ever we live in Britain, and whether or not we go to church, we do have certain rights with regard to the parish church.

those who go to church - but for everyone. To this day the three church schools in Alverstoke parish are schools for the whole community (Alverstoke CE Junior School; Leesland CE Infant School and Leesland CE Junior School).

Alverstoke parish is large with nearly 18,000 residents. It ranges from Haslar to Browndown, and from Stokes Bay to Anne’s Hill and Leesland; the northern Anyone living in the parish can be married boundary is the old railway line. It includes three churches of St.Mary’s or have a funeral in their parish (Alverstoke), St.Faith’s (Leesland) and church. For weddings, even if you don’t live there now, you can still be married if St.Francis (Clayhall). Plus we offer two church halls for community use - The you’ve lived in the parish at any stage in your life, or you have connection through Parish Centre and The Brodrick Hall. We even look after St.Mark’s Churchyard and your parents, grandparents or christening. For funerals if someone lives have a junior sailing club on Stokes Lake! in or even dies within the parish then they NEW MINISTER… can have a funeral in the church, whether Because it is about the ‘whole parish’ and or not they attended. Again, anyone living in the parish can apply for a baptism not just one church building, we are about to welcome a new vicar who will - a Christening. This is all because a Parish Church exists for the people of the focus all his energy on serving Leesland and Anne’s Hill. Pioneering Minister’ on Sunday 17th April The same applies to our Church of in Leesland CE Junior School Hall at about England Schools - they were set up by the 11.30am. This ceremony will follow a church over 100 years ago for everyone in procession from our St.Faith’s Church on the parish. They are not the preserve of Tribe Road and through Leesland Park,

starting at 11.00am. All welcome. We look forward to welcoming Tim and his family to Leesland. Tim is looking forward to discovering the story and listening to the community of Leesland. Who knows where his work will lead him? It’s not about a church building but it is about about serving community. So, as we welcome Tim to Gosport we wish him and his family every happiness as they settle among us in the parish. Make the most of your parish - it’s yours!

24

Equipment: Large pan, frying pan

Method: In a large pan, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, adding a pinch of salt to the water. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Cut the chicken into strips and the bacon into small squares before adding to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the chicken is golden brown. Crush the garlic clove and add to the frying pan with the chicken and bacon. Cook for a further minute. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper, then add the cream and warm through. Drain the cooked pasta before adding the creamy mixture into the large pan. Before serving, tear up the fresh basil and add to the mixture along with the grated cheese. Add some garnish for a finished look and enjoy!
