Edinburgh Trams

The Edinburgh Trams project is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Scotland. Advising Siemens plc we have been involved in this innovative project from tender stage through to project implementation. Our role has involved negotiation of a complex turnkey Infraco Contract, coordinating the provisions of the tram supply and maintenance agreements and management of sub contracts. We are currently advising in relation to ongoing contract management for the project.

The Trump Inquiry

US billionaire Donald Trump’s proposed golf and leisure resort at Balmedie in Aberdeenshire has caused controversy since it was first announced.  Working closely with officials we have guided Aberdeenshire Council through the legal issues arising out of this development. Our involvement included representing the Council at a local inquiry, and successfully defending an application for judicial review.

Olympic Railhead

The Barking rail freight terminal is the logistics hub for the 2012 London Olympics and the only rail freight terminal in the UK capable of receiving continental European gauge rail freight wagons. Â We acted for John G Russell Transport Limited in securing the lease of this strategic facility and the associated contractual and regulatory arrangements.

Container Port

Babcock International Group are developing a new non-tidal container port facility adjacent to the Rosyth dockyard on the Firth of Forth. Â We secured the necessary consents for the infrastructure works for the assembly of the new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy and harbour authority powers. Â We are now engaged in the drafting and promotion of a Harbour Revision Order and planning permission to develop Rosyth International Container Terminal.

New Social Housing

West Lothian Council are in the process of delivering the single largest social housing project in Scotland with 545 new build council houses being provided. Â We are advising the Council in relation to the procurement and construction aspects of this project.Â

M80 Project

The M80 Project upgrades an essential 18km stretch of the M80/A80, one of the most heavily used roads in central Scotland. Our client BEAR Scotland Limited is Scotland’s leading road contractor. We advised BEAR in relation to the operation and maintenance subcontract for the Transport Scotland sponsored M80 Stepps to Haggs Project. Â

Ferries

The livelihoods of many of the communities on the west coast of Scotland are dependent on the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services. Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited own the facilities and vessels required to provide these lifeline services. We acted in the restructuring of Caledonian MacBrayne Ltd to separate the assets from the ferry service business. We continue to act for CMAL in relation to the statutory harbour framework in which it operates, property management, and other commercial contracts.

Specialised Transactions

Chemring Group plc are one of the world’s largest manufacturers of munitions, explosives and propellants. We acted for them in acquiring manufacturing facilities on the Ardeer Peninsula in Ayrshire. The 57 hectare site (originally Nobel’s) is challenging in many respects, having been in use for nearly 150 years for explosives manufacturing. We continue to advise Chemring on environmental and other aspects of its Ardeer facility.

Estates Rationalisation

We advised South Lanarkshire College on all aspects of its £35m flagship project creating a single new campus to replace three former sites. We worked closely with the College’s management team throughout its complex project. This covered land deals, all aspects of construction and all public procurement processes and issues.
