How we assure quality in care homes The way care homes in Rotherham are monitored is changing, now with a stronger focus on the quality of care provided. All commissioned care homes in Rotherham are continually monitored by the Adult Commissioning Team and as a result are rated green, amber or red. The level of involvement from the Adults Commissioning Team with the care home is dependent on the rating, for example, those homes not meeting the required quality standard (rated amber or red) are supported to improve. Care homes complete a self-assessment annually. This is verified by the Adult Commissioning Team through validation exercises and face to face visits to the home if needed.
In addition, a Quality Assurance Toolkit has been developed, aimed to provide a wider range of people the opportunity to feedback on the service provided. A quality questionnaire will be available to residents, family and friends, visiting professionals and staff at the homes. The Quality Assurance Toolkit will focus on residents’ experience and the quality of outcomes achieved. The Adults Commissioning Team is also working with voluntary sector providers to form an independent group which will complete quality assurance visits to the care homes in Rotherham. This will further strengthen the approach to how care homes are quality checked and feed in to the overall ratings.
