The Old Courthouse Arts Center celebrates its 33rd Anniversary of Women's Works, an international exhibition honoring women in the arts. We are very excited that this year's show includes 100 works by artists from as far away as Germany, Italy, the Middle East and Australia. This year's show will be judged by ne art photographer, Helene Smith-Romer. Romer works with collages using a repetition of human features to create bright, surrealist portraits and settings contrasted against a dark background. Her work can be found in various collections across the country, including the University of Minnesota and the Chicago Historical Society. The rst Women’s Works exhibit started in 1988 to honor women in the arts during women’s history month by the original founders, local artists; Lynn Carlson, Nan Seidler, Alice White, Doris Gallagher and Jeanine Hill-Soldner. Past notable judges of Women’s Works included American feminist artist, Judy Chicago who founded the rst feminist art program in the United States; Beate Minkovski, co-founder of Woman Made Gallery in Chicago; and Karen Stahlecker, local printmaker, paper artist featured in the Smithsonian collection.
