Yuqian Sun was born in Shenzhen, China in 1997. At the age of 14, she came to the U.S. to achieve her goal as a young artist After graduating from Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, she earned her BFA degree at the University of Michigan in 2019.
At the age of 21, Yuqian published her original photography book, and held her rst personal watercolor exhibition Now she is an internationally award-winning artist currently based in Toronto Her paintings have been invited to show in multiple international exhibitions and publications.
Her Arti cial Fairies series is an on-going watercolor series of portraits Yuqian does for her dolls. Her art practice is derived from her photography works, which she started practicing when she was a kid
After receiving her rst 2ball-jointed-dolls as the present for her 14th birthday, she fell in love with these resin dolls and started collecting, dressing and posing them. During high school and college, she took dolls out to the forest to practice out-door photography, which she uses as reference image to create her watercolor and oil paintings. It was a pure hobby at rst, but turn it into a long and comprehensive method of creation that carries her aesthetics
Yuqian’s work always re ects how much she adores the unique beauty of these dolls and the history behind doll aesthetics in various cultures. Unlike how modern literature and art portrays dolls as, Yuqian aimed for creating artworks that turn these externally lifeless models into internally living objects
She focuses on capturing the subtle expression of these lively dolls, creating an illusion that they are actually breathing, smiling, and about to talk with their gem-like eyes. At the same time, she makes the joints and the solid surface of them very noticeable, highlighting the fact that they are only an imitation of human beings
She studied and experimented traditional mediums, striving to re ne her painting style into a unique authorship. In her doll portrait series “Arti cialFairies” and “GeminTheirEyes”, she keeps looking for the ideal doll in doll images she created Inspired by the visual beauty of these mass-produced toy dolls, her work proceeds to discuss the context derived from the meanings behind objects that are human beings’ arti cial imitations
Watercolor is her primary medium of choice When working on representational paintings with watercolor, Yuqian imagines capturing a solid form with intangible materials like water and light. The emotional intensity that emerges in the poetic ow of translucent color is the reason for her obsession with the medium
Yuqian has learned to be con dent yet humble to cooperate with water instead of controlling it Water- ow calms her down, teaches her to be honest with herself, and brings her inner world onto the paper

Magic is not real yet can a ect reality.
But reality is nothing more than a thread to be woven or plucked. A textile to be wrapped in. A realm to play within An energy to feel
Magic is an action A spark of wonder igniting the soul with belief beyond the self, what is known An impulse to explore and connect. Complete the picture.
I am not a magician, but I am an alchemist. The relation being the imagination. Magic lies within the imagination My art is my act of magic but to do so I had to learn a unique alchemy, the ability to transmute light into matter. To take the dreams within myself and weave them into this reality to be viewed by others. I do this for a simple goal: to awaken Myself Others Connections To build a bigger picture To complete the art of humanity.

Internationally known Fine Artist with 37 exhibitions, publications and awards in 2023.
A multi-talented artist that creates in every part of her life, Ilia began painting while maintaining a poetic pen pal relationship with a man named Ralph Grimes, who one day she sent a drawing to. After he hung up the sketch and he told her of how many admirers praised the work, her con dence and purpose as an artist was cemented. Inspired by the creativity of her mother and grandfather through gardening, she learned at a mere three years of age and beyond that ‘life is a canvas ’ upon which we create She continued her poetry, yet was urged by Grimes to try her hand at painting. Her path was set. Known for her ability to communicate exactly what the viewer wants in her commissioned pieces, she sold her rst wonderful work in 1987, titled ‘Cosi Fan Tuti.’ Her rst check for this validated her increasingly growing ability as an artist.
Ilia weaves a very spiritual feeling into both her writings and art Schooled by independent teachers, predominately Mr. Grimes who held an MFA, she was rooted further in her work by teachings in Classical, Jazz, Big Band and more
Following the lyrical pulse of life, when Ilia paints, creates digital ne art or writes, she listens to music. In uenced by Mozart, Vivaldi, Loeillet, Telemann, Purcell, Beethoven, Hayden, Bach, utist Jean-Pierre Rampal, and old time jazz, among more, these sounds help breathe life into her poetic, painterly work. Also heavily in uenced by writer, poet, photographer, musician, and lmmaker L Ron Hubbard, whose rational philosophy has guided her life, as well as inventor and artist Leonardo Di Vinci – she dubs her style as Dreamscapes as it has di erent colors and ows-reminiscent of her varying high minded in uences from art and musical composition to philosophy.
Ilia states, that she creates art in order to ‘inspire others to create ’ Indeed, her visions for her life, even beyond the canvass, are bright and noble. She adds, “I help other artists to make a living with their art because I found out that once I inspire others to create it elevates us all up higher-myself included And- at times that person isn’t going to continue unless there is a way or even several ways in which to make a living with their art, so I like to help teach them to do that ”
In addition to art, Ilia has now written a book titled “The Art of Mentoring” to share her successful actions for helping others! But for now, it is Ilia’s art that is worthy of much great attention When asked what clients collecting her work can expect, she concludes, “People can expect quality work that speaks to them. A person with my art can expect to look at it time and again nding new things to admire about it And a person can expect other people, when seeing it, to gravitate to it, look at it, admire and to continue to be drawn to the painting, looking and seeing more about it ” Unclear? Hardly. Ilia is a rare, grounded woman with a vision, and possessing of a trained skill and con dence in that vision, which speaks diligently- from the spirit to each work she creates- and from each work in turn to each client. It is with that understanding that we invite you to enjoy the exploration of this very vibrant and deserving artist
