Sunday Keynote Session 6:45-8:00 PM Jaime Casap, Google: The Future of Technology in Education Grand Ballroom We have been discussing the integration of technology in education for as long as most of us can remember. In this keynote, we will examine technology’s role in education and why now it’s no longer a question of whether we should integrate technology in education, but rather it is now a question of how we can leverage it to build the skills students will need to compete on a global scale. About Jaime Casap
Jaime Casap is the Senior Education Evangelist at Google, Inc. With more than 15 years of technology experience, he is responsible for working with K12 educational institutions and organizations to bring current and future technological innovations into the education environment. Mr. Casap evangelizes the power of technology and the use of Google tools, such as Google Apps and Chromebooks, to help students build the skills needed to succeed, close the digital divide, and help level the playing field. He has worked with hundreds of school systems and states to build the capability to bring Google tools to millions of teachers and students. Mr. Casap is also a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University, where he teaches classes in organizational behavior, leadership, and innovation. He serves on the Advisory Board of Directors for New Global Citizens and the Arizona STEM Education Program, and is a member of the Digital Education Council. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York at Brockport and a Master’s from Arizona State University.

Monday Keynote Session 8:15 - 9:30 AM Will Richardson: Learning in a Networked World: For Ourselves and for Our Students Grand Ballroom If we have access and the skills to take advantage of it, the Web gives us an easy connection to the people and the resources that we need to learn whatever we want to learn, when we want to learn it. That fact challenges the fundamental beliefs that we’ve held about schools and teaching and learning for over 100 years. As our students graduate into a fast-changing, globally networked world, what assumptions do we need to reconsider about how to best prepare them for their futures? How can each one of us begin to change our own learning practice to better model these new opportunities for our students? And what new challenges do we have to overcome to make sure the idea of school remains relevant in the networked world in which our students will live? About Will Richardson
Will Richardson was a public school educator for 22 years and is a co-founder of Powerful Learning Practice, a unique professional development program that has mentored over 3,000 teachers. Mr. Richardson has been writing about the intersection of social online learning networks and education for the past 10 years at willrichardson.com and in numerous journals and magazines, such as Ed Leadership, Education Week and English Journal. He is also a regular columnist for District Administration Magazine and a national advisory board member of the George Lucas Education Foundation. Mr. Richardson’s first book, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms has sold over 80,000 copies and has impacted classroom practice around the world. Hall Davidson began teaching in 1971. He taught middle and high school English, mathematics, Spanish, and bilingual mathematics, as well as college courses on technology for teacher credential candidates. He left the classroom to teach math on television, winning an Emmy award and spending 20 years at Los Angeles area PBS stations teaching, leading staff development, and championing content creation by students and teachers. He is a frequent contributor to national education publications, co-authored TechWorks, an internationally distributed classroom technology kit, and co-founded Kitzu.org, a resource of free online kits to encourage project-based learning with media. He was elected to the board of Computer-Using Educators where he served for six years. He joined Discovery Education in 2005 where he blogs, creates webinars, and works in educational partnerships and Global Learning Initiatives as a director of the Discovery Educator Network. He has spoken about technology and education to audiences around the world.

General Conference Information College Credit
Conference participants have the opportunity to register for one graduate credit. The cost for this one graduate credit is $40 from any of the following universities: BOR Universal Credit (includes BHSU, DSU, NSU, SDSU, & USD), Dakota Wesleyan University, or University of Sioux Falls. Representatives from the participating colleges will be available to answer questions and accept payment for graduate credit on Tuesday, April 17 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted. To be eligible to receive graduate credit, participants are required to attend: a Sunday indepth session, the Sunday keynote, 6 hours of sessions and/or events on Monday, and 4 hours of sessions and/or events on Tuesday. Also: email a reflection paper (two pages or less) to the instructor no later than April 24, and complete the online survey. A Continuing Education Contact Hours certificate is available on each person’s name tag with the number of hours they registered for. It can be submitted to DOE by anyone who does not wish to earn graduate credit. TIE does not keep track of contact hours - it is up to each individual to keep track of their own hours and submit them to DOE. Requests for refunds for registration cancellations will be honored up to 10 days prior to the conference. Refunds requested after that date (including inclement weather) will be calculated at half the registration cost. A $20 handling fee will be charged on each cancellation. Name Badge
Please wear your name badge at all times during conference hours. If you lose your badge, please go to registration headquarters for a replacement. Your name badge includes a QR code containing your unique contact information for your sharing convenience. Student Media Fair
The South Dakota Library Association and TIE in partnership with the MSET program at Dakota State University, host a contest for South Dakota students who wish to develop projects in the areas of commercial authoring programs, computer-generated art, videotape, and photography. Student projects will be displayed in the TIE booth. Awards will be presented to the winners in each category Monday at 4:00 during the Festival of Technology. Technology Leadership Awards
Nominations were sought for leaders in TIE Member Schools who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in implementing technology to improve K-12 education. A K-12 teacher will be awarded during the Sunday keynote, and a technology leader will be awarded during the Tuesday morning keynote. The Annual Dr. James Parry Technology Leadership Legacy Award will be presented in honor of TIE’s founder and former director for 22 years during Monday’s keynote. Festival of Technology
Two festival events are planned in the conference exhibit hall to allow participants ample opportunity to spend time with vendors. The Festival of Technology Grand Opening is scheduled from 3:00-5:00 pm on Monday. A Festival of Technology Celebration is scheduled from 10:40-11:30 on Tuesday. Each festival will include complimentary snacks, refreshments and prize drawings. Drawings for Prizes
TIE is giving away iPads, computers, technology products, and gift packages. Drawings will take place throughout the conference, including a special kick-off drawing after Sunday night’s keynote. There will be more chances to win Monday after the lunch break and during the Festival of Technology. Tuesday you will have chances during the morning Festival of Technology and at the conclusion of the Closing Keynote. Your entry card is attached to your name badge sheet. You must be present to win!
