The famous Dome at Wasaga’s main beach was taken down last Friday. The dome was always used as a temporary solution to fill the empty area left after the great fire at Main Street in 2007.The story about the Dome is known to all: the Levy brothers made a deal with the Town of Wasaga Beach and the Dome was placed partially on town land in exchange for parking space on the lot next door where the fire had destroyed several buildings. The lease on the Dome was approved for 3 years but was extended when the Levy Brothers went bankrupt in 2010 and former owner of the land Nick Vidinovski foreclosed on the property. The Dome’s covering was destroyed by heavy winds during Snowman Mania in February 2011. The cover was never replaced. Beach BOOSTER Promotions increased the Worldwide fame of the Dome on November 14, 2010 by lighting the Dome Blue in recognition of World Diabetes Day. Because the covering was not replaced a new venue to light Blue had to be found for 2011 and it was the Blue Lit Theatre Building on Nancy Island that reminded everyone of the five-year theme on “Diabetes education and prevention.” This also was a Beach BOOSTER Promotions event which excited many people in Wasaga Beach and Worldwide. The Dome will always be a part of the history and saga of Wasaga Beach.

Fishing On My Time Host Sea Cadets June 2nd On Saturday June the 2nd the Sea Cadets will be descending upon us for their year end festivities. The Sea Cadets are a wonderful group of young teens aged 12 to 18 years from the Navy League in Midland. The teens live amongst us within Simcoe County and here in Wasaga Beach. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps is a program that introduces young Canadians to a nautical life. The cadets learn valuable life skills such as leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, organization and effective communication. Their program introduces today's out to become community leaders. They chose Fishing On My Time as their destination for their year end party. We are very excited to be hosting their event. And it couldn't be more appropriate than a boating experience. On June 2nd the cadets will be heading out on the “Tortooga” Fishing On My Time boat into the waters of beautiful Georgian Bay where they will put to task the skills that they have learned throughout the year. The importance of knot tying will come into play as well as navigating through the waterways. Once arriving on the Bay they will have a BBQ and enjoy some swimming . Along with the Sea Cadets several Officers will be accompanying the group. Once safely docked and moored back at the docks the cadets will set up their tents for the night. On Sunday June the 3rd the morning starts off with breakfast and then a full drill parade will be completed. The cadets, in full dress uniform, will parade from our docks behind Pedro's Gift Shop, up to the beach and down Beach Drive. Several competitions will take place on Sunday at the Docks of Fishing On My Time where the Cadets can show off their skills. Captain Shawn and Andrea and the staff of Fishing On My Time hope you can stop by to visit the Cadets and give them a Wasaga Beach welcome! Page 4 beach BOOSTER 39

Sunnidale Road Water Tower Repainting

The Sunnidale Road Water Tower is undergoing a $395,000 massive repainting job. There will be an inspection of the exterior repainting works, as well as an inspection and report on the interior condition for another $35,000. The Tower has to be drained to allow the steel inside to completely dry. Only then can the inspection and repainting can commence. The placement of new antenna towers will be scheduled for installation after the Tower repainting has been done. The scaffolding is immense complete with an elevator and Beach BOOSTER was told 600 sheets of 3/4” 4x8 sheets of plywood were required as platforms. There are rumors of a big used plywood sale after the job is completed.
