Located just south of Edenvale in Simcoe County on the east bank of Nottawasaga river is Glengarry Landing. This National Historic site of Canada was occupied by the Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles during the war of 1812. The site consists of a semi-rural landscape and encompasses cleared fields and pasture. In present time, the site has been divided into several lots, with the addition of access roads and several different structures. In 1923, Glengarry Landing was designated as a national historic site. This designation was based on an event that took place at the forks of the Nottawasaga River. The Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles led by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert McDouall, spent two months building a flotilla of boats to move supplies and troops across Lake Huron to Fort Michilimackinac. In July 1814, McDouall divided his garrison and sent a party to Wisconsin. Under the leadership of Brevet Major William McKay they successfully recaptured the Prairie du Chien on the Mississippi River..
