*The admissions test is an Iowa Assessment **Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA or higher GPA criteria: A=4 points, B=3 points, C=2 points, D=1 point

ADMISSIONS PROCESS BEGIN THE PROCESS Go to www.bfhsla.org/apply and upload the required supporting documents: • Copy of the student’s birth certificate • Three proofs of Orleans Parish residency in the parent or legal guardian’s name*

LIVE IN ORLEANS PARISH - Acceptable proofs of residency:

Lease or mortgage information Homestead exemption Property tax bill Homeowners or flood insurance Auto insurance Medical insurance

Telephone bill Entergy bill Sewerage & Water Board bill Cable or internet service bill Payroll check stub with home address Government agency letter/notice

*Students must maintain Orleans Parish residency throughout their tenure at the school or they will be required to withdraw.

MOVING TO NEW ORLEANS?

Orleans Parish residency is a critical admissions requirement. Families who are planning to move to New Orleans may request to take the admissions test but will not be offered placement until they prove their residency in Orleans Parish. The school cannot admit any student not residing in Orleans Parish, regardless of circumstances. Contact us if you are moving to New Orleans.

TAKE THE ADMISSIONS TEST

All applicants must take the admissions test. We will confirm your student’s testing date once we verify the birth certificate and proofs of residency. Tests are administered at Benjamin Franklin High School on specified Saturdays. (See Admissions Calendar.) Timely applicants may re-test once if they do not meet admissions requirements on the first test. Late applicants may only test once. Admissions test results will be emailed to the applicant approximately two weeks after the test date. It is very important to inform the Admissions Office of any changes in address or email.

SEND THE REPORT CARD

Grades matter. Report card grades in core courses (English/reading, math, science, and social studies) are an important part of the application process. The unweighted GPA of core courses is used to determine GPA matrix points. For eighth graders, the report card showing the first and second quarter grades is evaluated to determine GPA matrix points. For schools using trimesters, the first trimester report card will be evaluated. (Families may request that second trimester or second and third quarter grades be assessed, if needed.) The complete ninth grade report card and the first-semester 10th grade report card must be provided for applicants to 11th grade. Eligibility cannot be determined until the report card is received. A GPA below 2.0 will render a student ineligible.

TEST ACCOMMODATIONS

If a student has a 504 Plan or an IAP that provides for accommodations for standardized testing, a copy of the plan must be provided to the Admissions Office two weeks in advance of the test date. This is necessary in order to have the accommodations in place for testing.

CHOOSE FRANKLIN

Acceptance offers will be sent beginning in February and then continuing on a rolling basis as report cards are received and additional tests are completed.
