Lines of Communication Contest is right around the corner! This issue is packed with contest information and updates! Please share this information with all members – especially if they are not subscribers! Harbor City will keep the boutique open during the chorus contest and will have grab and go food available in the boutique. They are hoping to have the feed from the contest available for viewing so you won’t miss a moment of contest while soothing those hunger pangs! The food will be available for a two hour window around intermission. Harbor City has also planned a Midway style afterglow with all kinds of things going on in the Cocoa rooms. Keep the party going after the Saturday night show! Good luck to all competitors!

A New Fiscal Year Begins May 1st! With the new fiscal year comes lots of administrative tasks for choruses and your regional management. Chapters set their yearly goals, install new officers and teams, and your regional management team meets to plan and focus on our upcoming events. Remember that you will need to provide Chapter Leader information to both International and the Region. We need this information to keep the lines of communication open! Regional assessments are due by May 31st.

The deadline for inclusion in The Barbershop Beat is the 27th of each month. You can subscribe to the Barbershop Beat by filling in the subscription form on the front page of the regional website. http://www.region19sai.org The best way to contact me is via email: bfalkinburg@comcast.net Barb Falkinburg Page | 3

Happy Spring!! And with Spring comes that time of year when Choruses prepare for Regional Competition. Please make sure that all competing members of your Chorus are in good standing with your Chorus, our Region and Sweet Adelines International. This means that dues and assessments are current. Speaking of assessments, it's also the time of year to submit your Region #19 assessments. The forms are on our Website and are due May 1, 2017. A late fee is charged after May 31, 2017. This is just a reminder that the Maryland Business Personal Property Tax Return must be filed by April 17, 2017. The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation will no longer mail those forms. You may download forms, file electronically using Maryland Business Express, and sign up for reminder e-mails at their website: http://www.dat.maryland.gov/businesspp

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Hershey!!

Webcast News! I am so very excited to announce that the RMT approved the idea of Region 19 joining the ranks of other choruses around the world who are now producing their own webcasts. I have been hoping that we would jump on the bandwagon and host our own webcast for a few years now and I am so glad to finally make this happen! The excitement and positive response from regional leadership and members has been amazing and I firmly believe that the webcast followers from all over will tune in to see what's going on in Region 19! I am also thrilled to announce that our webcasters will be none other than Maggie Ryan (Greater

Harrisburg) and Queen Heather Brooks (Four Betty's) hosting the Quartet contest on Friday and Sarah Nainan-Newhard (HCMC) and Maggie Ryan hosting the Chorus contest on Saturday. Since this is our very first venture into the world of webcasting we are going to offer our inaugural webcast free to viewers just as Sweet Adelines International does. It is our hope to offset our costs and build our 'bank roll' for future webcasts by collecting donations for our webcasting ventures. Perhaps your own chorus would be interested in taking up a collection to help defray costs.. maybe do a section challenge or challenge a sister chorus to matching donations. For $50.00 you could be a 'Friend of the Region sponsor' and have your name displayed with others on the big screens! If you know of a company who might be interested in a sponsorship please send them the information enclosed

in this mailing or you can find the sponsorship form on the website home page. We will also be offering shout-outs for $5.45 so you can thank your friends, family, coaches, or send good luck messages to your friends who are competing in quartets or other choruses!

See you in a few weeks! In Harmony, Di Bartel RMT Marketing Coordinator 2017 Webcast Coordinator
