KUKA SARUY THE SACRED RITUAL OF THE COCA LEAF

BY THE Q'ERO NATION WISDOM

A PROJECT ENVISIONED BY BACILIO ZEA WITH ARACELI BAÑOS & LARA JACOSKI

"The recovery and appreciation of ancient indigenous traditions in the Andes is a fact that is of great interest to all humanity. The reason of is is because the trajectory of Andean culture was not constituted through theories or philosophical abstractions, but was forged, through experience, experimentation and practice, in a long and slow journey of its inhabitants, in an ancient and perennial movement that has always been shaped by essentially ecological values" Wanderson-Ka Ribas.

FROM THE LAST LINEAGE OF THE INCAS Near Machu Picchu

Q'EROS NATION ARE A CULTURAL PATRIMONY Living isolated until 1949, the Q'eros preserved a heritage that reflects a very high sense of respect for everything that surrounds us as part of our own existence. Their main wisdom concentrates in: Medicine - Astronomy - Agriculture - Weaving - Music.

FROM CONQUERING TO COEXIST Guardians of an ancient cosmovision rooted in AYNI, the importance of reciprocal living and sharing, and ANIMU, the awareness of an animate essence in all things; The Q'ero nation cary a wisdom with a high awareness and environmental culture uniting matter and spirit in balance.

IN A SACRED PILGRIMAGE Orphaned of their sacred and traditional wisdom with 30+ years without practising the coca leaf ritual, the community prepare to go on pilgrimage followed by a caravan of llamas and traditional musicians. For 4 days walking and making offerings in sacred places, guided by the voice of their ancestors, until they reach the jungle where they receive the teachings of the coca leaf from one of their last guardians alive.

DON FORTUNATO THE KEEPER Wisdom keeper of an oral tradition in his almost 85 years old, Don Fortunato lives in a remote location and is looking forward to receive the community to pass on his wisdom as one of the last elders to hold on to the secrets of the rituals of the coca leaf embeded with the Q'eros Nation cosmovision through SAMAY - remembering where everything comes from.

LABRAY K’INTU : THE GUIDER The Labray K'intu ( coca leaf ) is a mediator in communication with the spirits in the life and rites of the Q'eros - the loss of knowledge surrounding the coca leaf influences not only the spiritual aspect of their lives and such a powerful plant guider, but also their relationship with nature, and the ways of agriculture, education, food sovereignty and social welfare.

THE YOUNG GENERATION RESCUING THE WISDOM This is a film and project to raise awareness into the depth of plant medicines that end up being disrespected by relationships that didn't get to know it's values or lost it on the way. Through the ritual of the Kuka Saury, we aim to bring back the right relationship with the sacredness of the coca leaf and it's cosmovision, which also bring key values that connect our humanity to earth.

TIME TO REVIVE THE MEMORY This is a key moment in humanity to revive the wisdom of respect with our sacred plants, our territory, all our relationships, coming back to the collective memory. Every example counts, specially coming as teachings from our Elders, keepers of ancient wisdom that guides our humanity. The coca leaf and its ancestral knowledge open us to recover this memory.

TO ALL GENERATIONS TO COME A feature film made in a cinematic poetic way that supports an epic event in the Q'ero Nation, on the reconnection and reunion of all generations, being documented as an inspiration and for posterity ( to be shared in other communities along Peru and worldwide in events adn) , bringing deep human ancestral values to be passed on to the next generations.

THE LAST LINEAGE OF THE INCAS A PRIMORDIAL DOCUMENTATION FOR THE Q'EROS NATION AND ESSENTIAL TO ALL HUMANITY.
