her early 20s, Dana Elise has felt a kinship with the LGBTQ community. “In the beginning, I was there for the friendships, the parties, and the joyful defiance of the Pride Parade. But when AIDS began ravaging the gay community and claiming the lives of far too many, I began volunteering with AIDS Project LA and became an advocate,” shares Elise.
This advocacy extended to her work as an electrologist, and at a time when there was no internet, no cell phones, no blogs, no easy ways for transgender people to connect — and certainly no insurance coverage for anything transrelated — Elise developed a word-ofmouth reputation as a woman who was ready, willing, and able to help transgender people transform their lives to live fully as they saw themselves. As a longtime advocate and ally of the LGBTQ community, Elise opened her own company, Dana Elise Solutions, a transgender-friendly environment specializing in Accelerated Electrolysis — a process where two electrologists simultaneously work on a client to clear a large area of unwanted hair in half the time.
This spirit lives on at Dana Elise Solutions, where Elise has created a safe harbor for her beloved transgender clients, and helped over 3,000 people transition, to date.
Prior to gender-affirming surgery, transgender clients need to prepare themselves, body, mind, and spirit. This is not an easy journey to undertake, and everyone who seeks to make this transition is extremely brave and truly committed. For 1.5 to 2 years prior to surgery, there are monthly mandatory electrolysis sessions to clear or sculpt hair on the face and genital area, in addition to sessions needed to remove unwanted body hair. Electrolysis — even Accelerated Electrolysis — is time-intensive, intimate work, and Elise has been there to listen with open ears and an open heart as clients tell their stories. Stories of abandonment by family, loss of employment, danger for daring to move through the world exactly as one is. Stories of beauty, connection, wild hope, and fierce determination to claim the right to love as one’s truest self. (And of course, hours of electrolysis means plenty of time to just spill the latest tea!)
These past two years in the pandemic have brought challenges to us all — isolation, anxiety, fear, grief, to name but a few. These challenges were compounded for many transitioning clients as they waited to hear if their surgery would be canceled after so many years of preparation. Elise faced this last challenge head on. “We secured letters of support from plastic
surgeons, clients, and community advocates, as well as working with members of the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology to have a new law enacted that deemed Physician-Ordered Electrolysis an essential service. Three months later, the new law was in place ensuring clients were able to resume services with minimal interruption,” says Elise.
Elise is a longtime contributor to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and annually donates hours of electrolysis and medical spa treatments to support fundraising events. Each year, Dana Elise Solutions also donates a full year of electrolysis services to one transgender veteran to prepare them for their surgery and thank them for their service, as well as provides pro bono services to abuse survivors and underserved members of an already-marginalized community whose dreams would be out of reach because they lack the resources needed for extensive treatment.
“The transitional process can be very lonely so to have a place to come have these treatments is wonderful,” says Elise. “We’re the first company Los Angeles county signed on for Electrolysis and have helped around 3,000+ transition.”
Photo by Jim JordanElise is proud to work in partnership with the LGBTQ community, UCLA, Cedars Sinai, St. John’s Children’s Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, LA Care MediCal and other insurance providers, along with renowned surgeons, dermatologists, endocrinologists, and psychologists, to ensure a safe, loving, and smooth transition for her transgender clients.
With a stellar reputation for excellence, artistry, attention to detail, honesty, and attentive client care Elise also boasts a client list of top Hollywood talent, corporate, and entertainment industry executives, and Los Angelenos.
Elise shared that "it truly takes a village” and she couldn't do it without the support of her incredible business partner Karen Wolfe and a dedicated team of Electrologists, Registered Nurses and Doctors.

Jim Jordan Interview by Arielle HarrisMeister Eckhart, a 13th century mystic, wrote, “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” The holiday season is always an appropriate time to take a few minutes, pause, and reflect on the gifts you’ve been given, the people you love and cherish and the opportunities you are afforded in life. It’s also a wonderful time to give back.

the Etehad family: Beverly Hills residents, students, neighbors, and business owners, who represent an embodiment of the city’s familial, communal and civic values.
Simon Etehad, founder of Etehad Law on Rodeo Drive, and Malissa Etehad, a Kaiser Permanente pharmacist and real estate manager, have built their life in Beverly Hills, raising their four children – Ella, 12, Yael 11, Liana, 7, and Elan, 3, and Spot, their one-year-old simply adorable Goldendoodle. While Malissa is a Beverly Hills native, both a graduate of Horace Mann and Beverly Hills High School, Simon, born in Iran and raised in Israel, has built his life, education, and livelihood in law and litigation right here in the States.
Simon, who fled with his family from Iran to Israel during a very turbulent period, came to the States at the age of 17 with very little. He had to work at two jobs to get himself through various academic degrees that allowed him finally to achieve his life-long dream of working for the service of others as a practicing attorney in the United States. “The inspiration that sparked my decision to become an attorney was actually my desire to serve this country which offered me refuge. I wanted to work for the Federal Government,” says Simon. Unfortunately, before he could fulfill this dream, he sustained an injury that led to multiple back surgeries. Fortuitously, his experiences with the impact of this injury
pivoted his career toward civil law and the clients he now represents who have also sustained lifechanging injuries.
“As an attorney who deals with countless clients who have sustained life-changing injuries, I have no doubt that my own health challenges allowed me to advocate much more zealously on behalf of my clients,” says Simon.
Malissa, on the other hand, pursued a doctorate in pharmaceuticals and has been a licensed clinical pharmacist for over 15 years at Kaiser Permanente. “I just always knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field. Growing up with a brother with Down Syndrome, health and medications were always a big component in my life. That's really what led me to become a pharmacist,” shares Malissa.
Though involved in differing professional fields, Simon and Malissa found one another through their love of Judaism and Israel. The two met at the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) event. Where at the time, Simon was on the Board of Directors, and Malissa as a guest of an event held by the FIDF. Not knowing his position in the organization, Malissa mistakenly assumed he needed assistance getting into the event. The couple now looks back on that fateful day and laugh. “She was trying to help me get in, but little did she know, I was part of the organization that put the event together,” laughs Simon. Ever since then, the two have been each other’s support system while building their
careers and growing their family.
Founding and operating his own law firm, Etehad Law in Beverly Hills, Simon’s success and achievement in law and litigation is undeniable. “I take tremendous pride in having a practice on Rodeo Drive. Together with our staff of over a dozen, we have the ability to spend our time helping countless clients navigate a sometimesbewildering legal system,” states Simon. “Etehad Law is in the very heart of Beverly Hills and it is a product of not only my hard work, but also the support and love from my family.”
Malissa also attributes her remarkable recent success in real estate, despite her role as a very full-time mom and clinical pharmacist, to that same love and support from her family. “I am lucky to have a husband who really supports me and a great family which allows me to be able to do what I set my mind to do. Believe me, it takes a lot of attention to both work and family to achieve what I’ve managed to do when you have such a full plate. Since my decision five years ago to be the best in my field, I have not only acquired multiple properties but I have been successful in managing them myself! People would tell me I was crazy and had way too much on my plate, but that never stopped me because I always knew Simon and my family had my back!”
With the common throughline of family, support, community, and faith between both partners, it is no surprise they have passed on
"Sukkot allows us to give thanks for nature around us in this time of harvest."

these values to their children and find a home in Beverly Hills to welcome such a mindset.
“As I look at how this world is changing drastically before our very eyes,” says Simon, “I am very conscious, and dare I say, concerned, about how best to raise good, kind, compassionate, and socially responsible children who will grow into good, kind, compassionate, and socially responsible adults.” Part of paving the way for their kids, the Etehad family has been heavily involved in community projects such as the FIDF and supporting their local Synagogue in Beverly Hills. Their eldest daughter, Ella, recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah. “She chose to donate all of her monetary Bat Mitzvah gifts to the FIDF,” Simon adds with pride. “She was able to donate over $50,000 for our brave soldiers and perform a great mitzvah. My hope and prayer is that her heart will continue to be prompted to perform great mitzvahs throughout her lifetime, and that her siblings will do the same –prompt others to follow her example and many others like it,” states Simon.
The Etehad family also continues their community work and cares very much for all the people of Beverly Hills. But what drives them in their everyday lives? “No matter who we meet, our goal is to leave someone better than we found them.” Whether it’s through business, family values, faith, or politics, the Etehad family wants to make sure their surrounding community only improves. “I am eternally grateful for the life I am living and that I can provide a good home and a good education for my children,” reminisces Simon: “We love living here.”
"Sukkot is one of my favorite Jewish holidays. It is an autumn holiday for Jews that follows shortly after the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, which is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. During Sukkot, the "little hut" or "sukkah" that Jews live in during the weeklong holiday symbolizes two major things.
First, the sukkah, or flimsy little hut we build in our front or backyards, represents the temporary shelters the Israelites lived in during their 40 years of wandering from Egypt to the Promised Land. Second, and as important, this temporary shelter symbolizes the agricultural society, where a farmer would sleep next to his harvest and have gratitude for the bountiful harvest in the upcoming year, as well as the abundant rain in the upcoming year.
A Jew is supposed to wake up every morning, and the first words to leave his lips are supposed to be "Modeh Ani", which says, "thank you, God". So, in essence, for Jews, "gratitude" is a fundamental religious sentiment, and the holiday of Sukkot brings this home in a way that no other holiday does. While you sit with your family to have your meals in the sukkah, or even sometimes sleep in your sukkah, you get to appreciate and be grateful for what you have, knowing that everything around you is only temporary. Moreover, just like a farmer who works hard during the year to have a good harvest, you still always need God's help to have a bountiful year."
With the winter season and the holidays just around the corner, there’s one Rodeo Drive boutique that should be on your radar: luxury Italian menswear brand Battistoni. It’s a classic Italian luxury brand that stands for timeless clothing and bespoke suits for men. One who originated in Rome by designer Guglielmo Battistoni in 1946 and has since made its way West. With beginnings as a custom shirt atelier, Battistoni has grown into an archetypal highend Italian menswear brand, excelling in pristine attention to detail, trendsetting, and exceptional tailoring.
Set in Rome, tucked away on a street located at 61A Via Condotti, Guglielmo first started to design his custom shirts to pay his way through art school. He soon realized shirt-making was his passion and decided to go full time on his brand. Battistoni has grown into a full collection, featuring bespoke and ready-to-wear suits along with accessories and leather goods.
Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Coppola and Eric Rutherford are some of the many stars that have favored wearing these handcrafted suits. Popularity of the brand led to launching two flagship boutiques located in Rome and its first US boutique in Beverly Hills designed by architects Emiliano Vitolo and Giulio Baiocco. The striking flagship outpost features beautiful details like 1960s paneling and 17th century ceiling frescos, while also utilizing materials like walnut, leather, bronze and travertine stone to capture the luxurious and sophisticated Italian essence.
The 6,500-square-foot space is perfect for hosting the upcoming Beverly Hills Living and Battistoni celebration in November. The exclusive VIP event will be held at the flagship store featuring all the luxe inventory and celebrating the Beverly Hills Living magazine’s 1st anniversary.
The luxe inventory will feature a new exclusive cycling line collection from Battistoni, including cycling shorts, jerseys, and
helmets along with cycling accessories such as backpacks, bike sets, and glove boxes. Battistoni crafts premium cycling apparel for pros and everyday riders … and their Italian flare is expanding in the US . . . the fit is perfect, and the warmth is great for fall and winter riding. The cycling collection will ensure great style and functionality while cycling. Now one can explore the beautiful California winter weather in style. Be sure to visit battistoni.com to shop the collection.

Lashelle Ullie, founder of The Lashelle Effect Atelier on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills, is bringing a new meaning of wellness to skin health. Ullie grew up in the world of beauty, raised by a family that took fashion, sophistication, and skincare seriously. “My grandmother said that if you take care of yourself, you can take a gentleman anywhere” says Ullie. Though he initially planned to go into fashion, sketching stylish designs at a young age, funding was scarce. To save for fashion school, Ullie decided to go to a community college and work to pay future tuition.
At 17 years old, he started as a stock boy at Estee Lauder. Constantly eager to dip his hands and brushes in the beauty space, Ullie jumped at opportunities to do women’s makeup at events. Recognizing his talents, his superiors allowed him to do makeup and skincare, which would be the starting point of his 20-plus-year career in all things skin. Throughout his career, he’s made his way across every beauty counter and brand: Neiman Marcus, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Bobbi Brown, MAC and many more. From Macy’s to Sephora, he was trained by brands directly and mastered the field of skincare and makeup.
For the next five years, however, Ullie went into men’s grooming, landing a job working for Damone Roberts, a famous men’s eyebrow groomer. With the focus on male clientele, Ullie noticed the positive impact the physical touch, pampering, and grooming had on these clients. He questioned why this form of self care was not more normalized and commonplace among the male demographic. From that point forward, Ullie wanted to use his work to continue doing what he was best at in his field and address this prevalent stigma surrounding the concept of a man’s form of self care and skin health.
Ullie’s Beverly Hills boutique salon has been successfully open for over two and half years and has catered to clients like Kelly Rowland, Toni Braxton, Pat Cleveland, Robi Reed, Emma Watson, Johnny Galecki and Toni Collette.
“Many men didn’t see makeup and skin care as self care,” says Ullie. “We don’t need to see beauty like it’s marketed towards women. We can see it as universal wellness. Toxic masculinity has held men back for so long. When another man is pushing this concept of skin wellness, it inspires more men to partake; they can be in touch with that intimacy and therapeutic touch that is often categorized as feminine or being ‘for’ women.”
Ullie works with all types of men, including trans men, and is proud to see that the world is in a reboot and men are too. “It’s important that men see each other, say, do, and demonstrate their participation in skin health to get peers to follow and normalize it,” says Ullie. “Skin protects you so why shouldn’t you take care of it? Are you not taking care of it because it seems frivolous? You think you don’t have enough time? Is it too feminine? You have to pay attention to skin, in a way, to understand yourself. You have to look inside to care for the outside and make the inside feel better. When we throw away the notion that skin and beauty is for women only, we as a society can begin to heal old deep-rooted mindsets.”
Overall, Ullie continues to promote overall skin health as part of lifestyle medicine and continuum care for everybody. His motto “Self Respect through Self Care” is always integrated across his practice; as a firm believer that skin health should be incorporated and heavily considered in a health care plan just as much as anything else, Ullie is introducing how beauty can go beyond skin deep.
In addition to his salon work, Ullie provides free massage and skin therapy treatments to cancer survivors and those in substance abuse recovery through his foundation, I Am Back.
The Lashelle Effect Atelier salon is located at 338 N. Canon Drive (Salon 90210). For appointments and reservations, call (323) 571-3749 or email lashelle@lashelleullie.com.

Make sure to always curl your lashes before putting mascara on. This gives your lashes a nice curl and the illusion of fuller lashes.
► Can’t contain your curly hair?
Put on a smoothing serum when your hair is wet and make sure to use a diffuser to minimize frizz and heat damage.
▼ Want your body to feel smooth?
Use a lotion with no fragrance, it is perfect for everyone, and especially for people with sensitive skin. Fragrance in your lotions can do the opposite for hydrating and can make your skin dry from the harsh ingredients.
▲ Face feeling inflamed?
Try red light therapy in the comfort of your own home. There are masks that emit red light onto the face which can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and decrease inflammation as the wavelengths penetrate deeply into the skin to boost collagen.
Need to fix your puffy under eyes?
Put some under-eye patches on! They work best by decreasing puffiness which can also decrease the visibility of darkness.
Is your makeup always rubbing off?
We know how frustrating it can be when you spend time out of your day doing your makeup for it to only come off an hour later.
Try a setting spray to keep your makeup in place, it works wonders!
▲ Stubborn acne?
If you’ve tried everything to get rid of your stubborn acne, then you should try an anti-fungal (dandruff) shampoo as a face wash. Treating the yeast inside the bacteria is what gets rid of the fungal acne.
◄ Perfume fading fast? Make it last.
Stop spraying perfume on your clothing and start spraying perfume on your skin. Spray on your wrists and the sides of your neck.
▲ Suffering from skin issues no matter what you do?
If you're giving up on using every and any product to help your skin look and feel better then try drinking bone broth everyday! Bone broth is great for antiaging and improves your hair, skin and nails all while healing your gut.

here is a forgotten word in healthcare and it is right on the tip of your tongue. Well, the tongue, the teeth, and everything in between. Dental!
As adults, we have the power to direct and lead our healthcare journey, but really, the journey is dictated by the healthcare we had access to in our youth. Our oral health is often put far too low on the list of health priorities. We aim to change that with the Giving a Smile Foundation.
In the last year, the Giving a Smile Foundation has provided hundreds of children with professional, free dental care so they can maintain a bright smile and prevent oral health problems such as cavities, gum disease, tooth decay, and more.
Imagine a child in your community, who does not have access to a clean toothbrush and was never taught how to brush their teeth correctly. Naturally, plaque will build up in their mouths resulting in cavities. The real danger lies beyond cavities (which are really just infections in your mouth) to the big scary words in healthcare: cancer, asthma, Alzheimer's, stroke, and more. The same plaque on their teeth is the plaque that can be found in clogged arteries.
Children without access to dental care are not just left with poor dental hygiene, they are slowly building future medical bills. Giving a Smile Foundation works to bridge the gap for youth in our community who do not have access to dental care.
Our mission is to help underprivileged children and young adults gain access to preventative dental care to keep their teeth and gums healthy. With an emphasis on patient-centered care and a passion for building connections in the local community, we aim to help families improve the oral health of children so they don’t face dental health issues in later adolescence or adulthood.
When children come in for their treatment, the Giving a Smile Foundation team is waiting with open arms to greet them and talk through what to expect that day.
Each kid will have four stops on their dental adventure!
Hygiene, to clean their teeth, take x-rays, and identify anything that may need more attention.
Restorative care is where they will have any potential cavities cleaned and filled.
Specialty care is for any child that needs care for their gums, orthodontia, or even have a tooth pulled.
Dental Education is where the kids learn how to brush, floss, and even receive nutritional coaching. They learn the importance of oral hygiene and how best to maintain it. Teeth cleanings and exams are critical but those can be short-term solutions if they do not learn the crucial basics of dental self care.
In addition to our team of accomplished Doctors, we invite graduate students from UCLA to join every quarter in an effort to provide the best care to as many children as possible.
During our last event, one child walked in with mysterious dental pain and walked out pain free with all four wisdom teeth extracted! Our goal is health, in the mouth and in the mind. We walk the path of oral health together with our patients, navigating the twists and turns hand-in-hand.
Armed with the knowledge to take care of their oral health, each child leaves smiling, feeling empowered by their clean and healthy teeth, ready to take a bite out of life!
Founded by Dr. Rodney Raanan and Dr. Justin Raanan, The Giving a Smile Foundation hopes to continue to provide quality dental services for families in need. Next time you think about health, remember the importance of dental. We invite all to join Giving a Smile Foundation to start making a lifetime of difference in our community.
