We’re pleased to announce that the February Sproul Lanes Student of the Month is Devon Preparatory School Junior Colin McCusker! To celebrate this recognition, Colin received a Certificate of Achievement and a gift certificate for a “Pizza Bowl” party from Sproul Lanes, our Sponsor of this award program. Colin’s SERVICE to his community is exemplary. His Eagle Scout service project was to install a butterfly garden and information board at a local elementary school. Colin designed, planned, and managed this project with the assistance of some fellow Troop 315 Scouts. Since Colin was a Freshman, he’s been involved in SpeakUp!, a Philadelphia-area nonprofit that helps teens learn to talk openly, honestly and without judgment with their peers, teachers and parents about difficult topics in their lives such as stress, anxiety, suicide, drinking, drugs, social and academic pressure. For the past two years, Colin has served as a Student Ambassador on his school’s SpeakUp! Student Leadership Team, helping to plan each year’s annual event. Colin appreciates how SpeakUp! has taught him to encourage conversations and listen empathetically. Colin also excels academically, having achieved Honor Roll status every quarter in high school. Since age 7, he has enjoyed playing the piano, which he did in Devon Prep’s Jazz Band as a Sophomore. He also enjoys being on his school’s tennis team each Spring, and serving as Goalie on his school’s soccer team each Fall. Colin finds being Goalie interesting and rewarding because he “likes the pressure of being the last line of defense.” A Digital Design course Colin recently took has him considering majoring in Engineering Design in college. Colin, may your future include interesting and rewarding ways to use your talents and time in service to many more communities!
