Summer Movies for the Family

Summer 2021 is shaping up to be a welcome reminder of what pre-pandemic life was like. Remember spending those hot, stormy summer days at the movies with the kids? We’re happy to say those days are back, the popcorn is hot and the lineup of new and discounted family-friendly movies is exciting. Summer movie screen time is back!

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (in theaters now)
In this sequel to 2018’s Peter Rabbit, Thomas and Bea are now married and living with Peter and his rabbit family. Bea has written a series of children’s books based on Peter and his friends. When Peter learns that his character is portrayed as a troublemaker, he leaves his quiet home and goes to the big city, where trouble finds him. (rated PG)
KS21: Playing with Fire (in theaters now)
Jake Carson (played by John Cena) and his team of firefighters are experts in what they do. But when they rescue three siblings whose home is in the path of a threatening wildfire and whose parents cannot be found, they unknowingly sign up for the ultimate challenge: babysitting. From toddler temper tantrums to teen attitudes, Jake and his team find themselves in a situation far more unpredictable than fighting fires. (rated PG)
The Boss Baby: Family Business (in theaters now)
The Templeton brothers are back in this DreamWorks Animation sequel. Tim and his Boss Baby brother Ted are all grown up but have grown apart. Tim is married with a family of his own, and Ted is a successful hedge fund CEO. When Ted shows up at Tim’s door to pitch another business deal, they get the surprise of their lives when Tim’s daughter Tabitha turns the tables. (rated PG)

Space Jam: A New Legacy (in theaters July 16)
Dom, the son of pro basketball legend LeBron James, has found that life can be tough, especially when he has no interest in basketball. All Dom wants is for his dad to let him be himself. So when Dom is captured and sent to a digital world, LeBron follows to save him and their relationship. But to do so, LeBron has to win the toughest game of his life. It’s a journey that challenges LeBron more than any game on the court, and redefines his relationship with his son. (rated PG)
PAW Patrol: The Movie (in theaters August 20)
Ryder and his team of heroic pups are back and on a mission to save Adventure City from destruction. Their evil nemesis Humdinger, who has been elected mayor, begins tearing down buildings and goes as far as banning dogs. The call for help comes from Liberty, a smart and clever dachshund who joins the team to save the citizens of Adventure City. (rated G)
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (in theaters October 1)
The pack from Hotel Transylvania is back in this summer’s Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. Drac’s son-in-law Johnny is frustrated and feeling like he doesn’t belong because he’s the only human in his monster family. He enlists the help of Van Helsing, whose Monsterfication Ray invention turns humans into monsters and monsters into humans. But when the ray misfires throughout the hotel, Drac and the rest of the pack become humans and Johnny becomes the only monster. It’s a race against time to reverse the spell before their transformations become permanent. (not yet rated)
If you’re looking for fun, budget-friendly movies for the kids, head to Regal Edgmont Square on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for their $1 Summer Movie Express. Showtimes are at 12:30 pm both days. All the movies in this series are rated G and PG, and are just $1 per person. A portion of Regal’s proceeds from the Summer Movie Express benefit The Will Rogers Institute, which funds research toward understanding, treating and curing pulmonary diseases and disorders.
