Newtown Square’s 103-Year-Old Neighbor gives his advice in the new year.
It is not often that a man can live for 100 years, and at 103, one of Newtown Square’s WWII veterans, Mr. Eugene Vickers, has remained healthy and sharp with a great sense of humor. It takes diligence, fortitude and a great belief system to preserve that positivity for 103 years. Here’s some simple advice we gained from Mr. Vickers to help us live a long and happy life.

“Instead of doing things yourself, thinking you can do it on your own, it’s always better to put your trust in the Lord. There’s nothing better than what the Lord has for us. “The old saying that ‘you are what you eat’ has always been true for me, and I exercise too. Every morning I do stretches, lunges, touch my toes, things like that. If I don’t, I get a bit tied up.”
“I live by a specific verse in the bible: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.’ Proverbs 3:5-6. That’s worked in my life without any question.”
