MRE stands for “Meals Ready to Eat”. All the contents of these shelf stable foods are fully cooked and can be eaten hot or cold.
That’s a pretty subjective question and obviously depending on whom you speak with you will get a different answer.

WHY ARE MRES BEST READY TO EAT MEALS? Meals Ready to Eat or in other words MREs are food rations supplied to the soldiers of the United States Armed Forces. These MREs are meant to provide necessary nutrition to the soldiers while they are on the go. Just like the civilians, the soldiers are also allowed to have normal food whenever possible. So, whenever they are in the camp kitchen, their own kitchens, restaurants they can have the same cuisine as the civilians. But once they start a mission, it is not possible to spend a lot of time cooking, and sometimes they don’t have provision for food preparation as well. In that case, they will be provided with the Meals Ready to Eat. It is a packaged meal that comes along with a flameless ration heater. This helps the soldiers to have hot, delicious food whenever and wherever required and it does not take too much of effort to prepare.
