MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD CYS INVITES YOU TO “PURPLE UP! FOR MILITARY KIDS.” April is commemorated as the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the children of our brave service members. Each year, Child and Youth Services (CYS) hosts a network of activities within its programs to celebrate the children and families whom we have the privilege of providing care. The theme for this year’s Month of the Military Child is “Overcoming Challenges-Adapting Today for a Stronger Tomorrow.” The theme exemplifies the courage and resilience that military children demonstrate in adapting to the many transitions throughout their lives. CYS is encouraging everyone across the garrison to join us in wearing purple on Friday, April 17, as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their sacrifices. Why purple? Purple is a combination of all the colors representing the different branches of the military: Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. This color has come to symbolize military children and their shared experiences. On this day, along with other community organizations and school districts across the state of Georgia, wear your purple as we celebrate our military children! 20 | On the Go | benning.armymwr.com
