Thermae Fissure
To Cleanse the Body
To Cleanse the Temple
I had went to Greece for Wentworth’s Global Research Studio to explore “The modern and prosaic in the sacred landscape.” Led by professor Meliti Dikeos, we traveled to the island of Aegina, discovering a collection of abandoned churches that had at once been a refuge for the inhabitants of the island. Our studio project was to take place on these steep slopes. Our program: develop a modern asclepieion, a center for healing. At the peak of this hill I unearthed an interesting natural feature. A fissure in the earth, cracking the east side into two and forming a hidden chasm. I saw here possibilities to make something one with the earth and at the same time a secret, secluded gem.

I quickly found an interesting plot of land in between the two become a garden space full of trees and paths. With all of these ruins I wondered what was under

Pawtucket Temple
Where the Pawtucket Canal meets the Concord river there is a collection of small foot paths snaking downtown Lowell, Massachusetts. It is easy to get lost in a labyrinth made up of historic mill buildings, narrow canals, and the vacant lots of a city looking to restore itself. Our site sat right on this intersection and I wanted to show the secret beauty Lowell has to offer, which can be found if you look hard enough.
