SAMBROOK’S BREWERY: Crafting Excellence Since 2008
Founded in the vibrant Battersea district by Duncan Sambrook and David Welsh in 2008, Sambrook’s Brewery began with a simple yet ambitious vision - to revive brewing in London’s heart.
In September 2008 Wandle Ale was born. This modern twist on a traditional best bitter quickly became—and remains—one of the best selling beers at Sambrook's Brewery. Wandle Ale is more than just a drink; it's a testament to their commitment to quality and innovation.
In 2018, Sambrook's embarked on an ambitious project to relocate to the historic Youngs Brewery site in Wandsworth. Following three years of meticulous planning—and a brief pause during the pandemic—their new brewery and taproom opened in July 2021.
Tradition Meets Innovation
London’s brewing landscape has transformed dramatically. From just five breweries in 2008 to over 120 today, the city's brewing community is thriving. Throughout this evolution, Sambrook’s Brewery has remained a steadfast producer of exceptional craft
Their state-of-the-art brewery is more than a production site; it’s a continuation of a brewing legacy dating back to 1533 and situated on the oldest continuous brewing site in the UK, with roots dating back to the reign of Henry VIII.
The heritage brewer and historian at Sambrook's Brewery, John Hatch, can take you for a captivating brewery tour that delves deep into the rich brewing history of London. John will guide you through the fascinating evolution of brewing, from the early days of the Ram Brewery site. Experience the resurgence of beer and explore the modern London craft beer scene, all while admiring the unique collection of brewing artifacts and learning about the colourful characters who have shaped the industry.
Duncan Sambrook, Founder
"I set up Sambrook’s Brewery in 2008 with a clear vision of being at the heart of our community and we are delighted that Wandsworth, our home, has been named London Borough of Culture."
"Brewing has always been a big part of Wandsworth culture, with our brewery at the Ram Quarter continuing the heritage of having an operating brewery on site since 1533. Our heritage centre bridges our state of the art new brewery with the heritage and history of the site which has seen continuous brewing since the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st!"
"Of course brewing has changed a lot in that time, but one thing that remains the same is the ability of pubs and beer to bring people together."

"This is what we are doing at out taproom on Ram Street, which is a great place to meet and socialise. Our fantastic industrial taproom is perfect for hosting, community events for local clubs and societies, corporate away days and meetings or just a big celebration."
"We also have a host of upcoming events, with brewery tours and tastings, Thursday night Jazz, Burns Night and the rugby Six Nations all happening."
