2 To engage with local employers
Other ways you can work with us
Practice Weeks give us the opportunity to work alongside businesses and other organisations with benefits for both students and employers. We are a Business School for business and the community.
• Show how your business works – factory tours, “a day in the life”, your product or service from inception to delivery • Mentor students in areas of your expertise, sharing your experience of practice and the nuances of working in business • joint projects that impact in the community and may be part of your corporate social responsibility agenda, or the professional development of yourself or your staff
How it works On the first morning of the week, you present an issue or opportunity from your organisation that you do not have the resource to tackle currently. This might be market research for a launch of a new product or service or a new strategic direction that needs analysis and input. You may want to scan your competitors, identify the scope of your resources or the risks associated with change and innovation.
University of Bedfordshire Business School University of Bedfordshire Business School is the largest business school in the East of England. We have 200 full time teaching staff and 7,000 students – approx. 5,000 on campus and 2,000 through our partners overseas in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Practice Weeks take place throughout the year at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For further information about how your organisation could benefit from participation in Practice Weeks contact Tim Priestman, Projects Executive on 01582 743972. e: tim.priestman@beds.ac.uk
Students then have the opportunity to ask questions and dig deeper into the issue. They work intensively on the potential solutions over the rest of the week (with guidance from UBBS staff) and present back to you their results on the final day. You will work with a single UBBS project manager from the Executive Dean’s office throughout to ensure both continuity and consistency. We structure any interactions to make the most efficient use of your time with students. Your input and expected outcomes will be agreed in advance.
Good for your organisation • test real world ideas with academic input using the knowledge and skills of our students with the support of UBBS staff and resources at no financial cost. • experience the talent available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and pursue opportunities for placements or an employment. • a low-risk opportunity to work with UBBS and test the opportunities for further involvement. • increase awareness and credibility of your business. • access to University events such as Leadership Futures and facilities such as our new Postgraduate and CPD Centre. • preferential rates for activities such as market research and analysis and other consultancy with students and staff. • connect to international companies working in areas complementary to your own through our overseas centres and alumni.
