“Last year, we saw a record 55% increase in car sales in the UK. That success path continues this year with a doubling of our sales in the first quarter compared to the same period last year with a wave of desirable new models that have stolen a march on the competition with the stylish Clio supermini, Captur crossover and refreshed Mégane and Scenic ranges. We’re all particularly proud of the launch of the Dacia brand to the UK last year where, from zero, it was the fastest-growing new car brand reaching a retail market share of 1.4%.” “During most days, there will be contact with our Paris head office via phone, email, e-conference or video. As Renault is a global business, I’m very happy that our international language is English! “Our network partners are crucial to our business so I have regular contact with them individually and their association body and our sales growth results in meetings with potential new partners” Ken is Puerto-Rican born, American by nationality, multi-lingual and has worked all over the world from Japan to Mexico. Now working for a French company in the UK, he says what this international perspective brings to his career and outlook. He said: “There’s always something new to learn from every situation and a global career further widens that opportunity. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to experience different political, economic, cultural and commercial challenges throughout my career, and I’ve brought those learnings with me to Renault UK. Ultimately, though, the role of a business leader remains consistent throughout the world: to motivate people to strive for better and generate profit.” Ken’s day in the office ends around 7pm; arriving home in time to see his daughter before bedtime and finishing the evening with a final catch up on international and business news. There’s sure to be some more business to conclude and emails to send to his lieutenants before the end of the day.
A busy life for Ken Ken is the Managing Director of Renault UK and is responsible for the sales of Renault and Dacia vehicles, parts and services in the markets of the UK, Ireland, Cyprus and Malta. At its head office at Maple Cross, near Rickmansworth, Renault UK employs 135 people and, last year, turned over almost £1 billion, selling just over 76,000 vehicles through its network of 135 dealers. Ken’s day starts in the early hours catching up on emails overnight from other time zones. His smart phones are never far away. The family breakfast always follow a dose of international and business news from CNN, BBC and Bloomberg. Seeing his daughter off to school is always a priority just before departing for work. Meetings at the Maple Cross office start from 9am with a packed schedule throughout the day. He said: “I have regular committee meetings with my management team to review our sales performance, marketing plans, product and service quality actions.
