Milford - Everyone’s Place: News

A chat with... Claire Humphreys of Claire Designer Clothes Popular local designer clothing boutique, Claire, is celebrating 21 years of business in Milford during 2012. And Claire Humphreys, the lady who started the boutique back in the early 90s, still loves bringing North Shore women designer clothing from New Zealand, Australia, America and Europe. She leads a busy life. Claire and her husband Scott also have a very successful Landscaping business as well as four children. Aidan Bennett put these questions to Claire in mid May. AIDAN BENNETT: To still be going after more than two decades you obviously enjoy what you do? CLAIRE HUMPHREYS: Yes - The Fashion Industry is like no other every day is different, you are always learning and adapting to change. AB: How did you come to start the business in Milford? CH: I was brought up on the North Shore, went to school at Takapuna Grammar, and always had an interest in fashion and art. So after leaving school I did my OE for a few years and when I came back I wanted to work for myself. I didn't want to work for anyone else. So I opened a fashion store and I am proud of the fact it is still very popular after 21 years. AB: You obviously love working in the Milford the area having been here so long? CH: Yes - it is a pleasure to work with and have such amazing clients from all over Auckland in a relaxed atmosphere like Milford.

AB: With four children and two businesses life must be pretty hectic? You must be pretty organised? CH: It's great to be hectic, you don't have time to sit around. You just get on with it and yes you have to be extremely organised. AB: What do you do in your spare time? CH: The kids and businesses take up most of it, but I am a very active person and still find time to do things I enjoy like tennis, skiing and mountain biking. It's all about family and getting together with great friends. AB: Going to watch the Olympics when they are on? CH: Yes, all the family will be watching, especially the swimming and the rowing as my husband was a rower at school. AB: Do you have a favourite spot in the area you love going to? CH: My girlfriends and I get together with our children and head down to Thorn's Bay beach for some time out and soak up the sea air. AB: Favourite eating places locally? CH: Tea Total next to the shop. I am mad about tea and their food is very good as well. AB: One thing Milford could do better is... CH: Landlords need to take some time to take better care of the local buildings, it benefits the whole community. Also someone should start a Farmer's Market in Milford.
