24/7 medical FaciliTY openinG 5 november ShoreCare’s new accident and medical facility at Smales Farm will be open for business at 8.00am on Friday 5th of November, providing accident and medical services for the North Shore population 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new purpose-built facility is located on the ground floor of Sovereign House. It will offer a comprehensive range of services including X-ray and ultrasound services in addition to a full accident and medical clinic. ShoreCare CEO Mary Gordon believes it is the most advanced A&M facility in the country. “The patient-centric design is quite unique,” she says. “Health professionals are coming in from around New Zealand to view it.” The accident and medical clinic is open to everyone on a casual, walk-in basis. An ultrasound facility will enable ShoreCare to offer pregnant women maternity scanning as part of their prenatal care. ShoreCare’s A&M clinic at Smales Farm will service the entire population of the North Shore for after hours care. From 8.00pm till 8.00am, ShoreCare and the North Shore Hospital are the only two options for patients needing accident or medical care on the North Shore. The new facility will treat between 75,000 and 85,000 patients each year. A general practitioner (GP) service will open in the New Year.

The accident and medical clinic will treat both illness and accident. People with chronic illnesses will continue to see their GP in the normal way, but most GPs are only open until six o’clock in the evening. There are also times when patients can’t get an appointment quickly enough with their own GP. On these occasions the new clinic will provide backup,

The X-ray service is provided on a walk-in basis and will service anyone with accident or medical conditions through to patients who have been referred for an X-ray by their GP or other health care provider. Additional facilities include a resuscitation unit and
