Brookhaven Firefighters Make Quick Knockdown Shirley, NY- On Saturday, February 17th around 7:45 P.M., the Brookhaven Fire Department was activated for a report of a house fire next to 438 Auborn Ave. On arrival, Chief Giuseppe Loiacono radioed in that he had flames showing through JUMP TO FILE# the exterior wall. 022018114 Loiacono reactivated for a working fire. Engine 5-3-5 arrived a short time later and the crew went to work immediately. Crews were able to make a fast knock down on the fire. Firefighters laddered up the side of the home and removed some siding to make sure that there was no further extension. All occupants were able to escape without injury. Mutual Aid was provided by Yaphank for an engine crew and Mastic for a Rapid Intervention Team. Center Moriches was called to stand by in case another alarm came into Brookhaven. South Country Ambulance, who was standing by for Shirley Community Ambulance that night, was on scene to provide EMS support. - JOHN WALTHERS
