last Tuesday night (Feb. 3). The victory gives the Panthers a 12-2 dual meet record as they head into the Section 2AA Team Championships starting this Thursday night in Belle Plaine. The section Final Four will be held at Mankato East High School this Saturday beginning with the semifinals at 4 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m. “We have had a pretty good regular season overall,” states Scott West coach Darren Ripley. “However, what ultimately defines your season at Scott West is making it to the state tournament and doing well there.” Scott West started well against Dassel-Cokato as it jumped out to a 44-0 lead by winning the first eight weight classes. The meet started with the return to wrestling action of eighth grade 106-pounder Tyler Shackle, who went right to work against Prestin Bradley as he took the Charger down and turned him with a bar arm to get a three-point near fall and a 5-0 first period lead. However, with the score 7-2 in favor of Shackle going into the third period, Bradley would mount a comeback by scoring three take downs before Shackle went on to close out the match with a 12-8 final take down just before the buzzer. “It was good to have Tyler back in wrestling action,” comments Ripley. “He was a little tired there in the third period but that in a large part was due to the mat time that he has missed.” Scott West would not miss a beat as it recorded five pin falls, a technical fall and a forfeit in the next seven weight classes to take that 44-0 lead over the Chargers. It was Parker Huss with a pin at 113 that was followed by a Jackson Stauffacher pin at 120. Carter Piche scored a 16-0 technical fall at 126 that was followed by a pin from Ben Kelvington at 132. After Ryan Siegle received a forfeit at 138, Dylan Johnson recorded a pin at 145 and Tyler Buesgens did the same at 152. “We outmatched them a little bit here early in the meet,” states Ripley. “It was pretty much 44-0 before we had time to look up at the scoreboard.” DC Charger Jack Anderson would put his home team on the scoreboard when he pinned Deshawn Carter at 160 to make it a 44-6 team meet score. Andrew Fogarty answered with a pin to make it 50-6 in favor of

the Panthers. At 182 pounds, Mike Leffler won a hard-fought 7-1 match over Scott West 8thgrader Calvin Menke, and when Leffler’s teammate Jacob Brost scored a pin of Adam Glisczinski at 195, the home team Chargers had their first back-to-back wins of the night. Logan Polzin made it three in a row as he was the benefactor of a locked hands penalty point that enabled him to notch a 2-1 victory over Tyler Grieves at 220 pounds. Scott West heavyweight Josiah Schatz closed the meet with a second period pin fall over Brok Huikko that would give the Panthers their 56-18 win over the Chargers. “They are a better team up top and they beat us at four of the last six weight classes,” states Ripley. “It’s time to get ready for the section tournaments coming up.”
