Shakopee’s Derby Days Board Dissolves; Festival’s Future TBD Almost three months after longtime organizer Jack McGovern was found guilty of illegally using funds intended for operating Shakopee’s summer community festival, the board overseeing Derby Days has decided to dissolve. The decision leaves the future of the community festival in question. The Shakopee Valley News recently reported the decision to pull the plug on it was the result of a lack of support from the community and

lack of backing from the Shakopee City Council, which had previously provided the festival funding and staff support. Heidi VonBokern and Ryan Koch, two of the volunteers who ran a makeshift community festival last summer after Derby Days was suspended, said the existing board members hope the community can come together and reorganize to present Derby Days in the future.
