Tigers Can’t Hold Off Raiders by Dan Ruud The Belle Plaine High School boys’ basketball team slipped a notch (from fourth to ďŹ fth place) in the Minnesota River Conference standings and fell to .500 overall at 12-12 following a 6761 setback at Norwood Young America Thursday night. The Tigers, 4-7 in the MRC, were scheduled to close the conference season at home against last-place Le SueurHenderson Tuesday night after this edition of the Herald went to press. They will wrap up the regular season with a nonconference game at JanesvilleWaldorf-Pemberton 7:15 p.m. this Friday. The section tournament, for which brackets have not yet been released, will get underway March 2 at the homes of the higher-seeded teams. NYA 67, Tigers 61 The Tigers led the Raiders by double digits early in the game and by two points (26-24) at the break. But then the wheels came off in the second half as the host Raiders took a 40-33

advantage on their way to a sixpoint victory Thursday night in Norwood Young America. Belle Plaine was within three points (64-61) with just over 30 seconds left in the game but was blanked the rest of the way. “The difference in this game was from the free throw line. Norwood made 30 free throws while we attempted just seven,â€? said Tigers coach Paul Fogarty. Brody Curtiss led the Tigers with 19 points. Nathan Herman and Noah Hastings were also in double ďŹ gures with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Andrew Hunsader added ďŹ ve points, while Matt Nelson and Patrick Bigaouette both had four. Curtiss had six assists and four rebounds to go along with his game-high total in points. Nathan Herman had seven rebounds and Hastings had six assists and two steals. Four players scored between 11 and 16 points for NYA, which improved 4-6 in the MRC. 2016-17 BPHS Boys’

It is up to the individual to decide when to begin receiving Social Security beneďŹ ts. A person can take a reduced beneďŹ t as early as age 62. Or, a former employee can claim a full beneďŹ t at what the Social Security Administration considers to be full retirement age, which, for example, is 66 for anyone born between 1943 and 1954. Otherwise, a person can wait until age 70 for yet a larger beneďŹ t. Bear in mind that, once you elect to receive a reduced beneďŹ t, you remain at that level for the rest of your life (with normal cost-of-living increases). The longer you are apt to live, the more you beneďŹ t from waiting for the larger check. The current generation of retirees is more likely than the last generation to have active retirement years ďŹ lled with a mix of travel, sports, and education. How will you spend your retirement years, and how can you fund those years? Social Security may ďŹ ll only a limited amount of your ďŹ nancial demands.
