YOUNG ASTRONAUTS

We’ve walked on the moon and have launched the space shuttle and orbiter more than 100 times. Astronauts now orbit Earth and live on the space station for months at a time. They perform experiments and learn a lot about Earth, but that was not the beginning of flight for man. Many inventors tried different methods to get off the ground but the real beginning was in a hot air balloon. How long ago was that? Did the first launch take place in the Unites States? Who invented the hot air balloon? This year in Young Astronauts we will investigate the history of flight from the science of airplanes through the internet and other activities. AGE: 4 - 7 Grade DATES: Oct. 17 - May 14 (One Monday a month, schedule handed out at first meeting.) OLD LOG THEATER “Everbody Loves Opal”

This classic comedy is about the infectiously cheerful Opal Kronkie and a trio of down and out con artists. Opal, a middle aged recluse, lives in a tumble-down mansion at the edge of the municipal dump. The general disarray of her establishment is aggravated by the fact that Opal collects things--anything that can be toted home in her little red wagon. Into her rather strange world come Gloria, Bradford, and Solomon, three purveyors of bogus perfume on the lam from the authorities. The crooks decide that what Opal needs is plenty of insurance, a rapid demise, and three beneficiaries (themselves). The unsavory trio concoct several elaborate schemes to “do in” Opal, but each one backfires. Through it all, Opal radiates kindness, affection, and an abiding faith in the goodness of human nature. Please specify lunch choice: Roasted Chicken Breast, Smoked Windsor Pork Chop, Walleye Pike, Beef Strogonoff, or Vegetarian Lasagna. DATE: TIME: COST: DEADLINE:
