bcc: CLASS NOTES Jeff Stewart ’93 has joined Lowe’s as director of finance IT solutions. Jeff continues to serve on the Alumni Advisory Council for the Belk College. Matt Ciaglia ’96 has been promoted to private lending consultant for U.S. Trust/ Bank of America in Charlotte. Amanda Graves ’96 is an independent senior executive director and founding member of Thirty-One Gifts. She served as a National Conference facilitator in July 2011 and earned a spot on the Thirty-One Gifts Presidential Advisory Committee and Leadership Council for 2011-12. Randy Peterson ’96 has been named the director of major giving-South region for Autism Speaks. Randy, his wife Wendy and sons Griffin (8) and Colton (4) reside in Charlotte. Jason H. Willliams ’98 (MBA) has founded Platinum Building Automation with two business partners. Platinum Building Automation saves customers energy dollars by installing and/or servicing building automation control systems. The company currently services several campus buildings at UNC Charlotte.

Amy Scarlino ’00 was promoted in July to CEO of Catchpole Corporation, a communications firm that specializes in executive and corporate thought leadership. She lives in Boston, Mass.

Jessica Dill ’00, ’01 (MACC), a member of the Belk College Alumni Advisory Council, has joined the Office of Internal Audits at Duke University as a manager. Jessica, Alan and their dog Camden have relocated to the Raleigh/ Durham area. Stephen Collie ’02 recently accepted a new position with Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. Stephen has worked in financial services for eight years and will now be a financial solutions advisor with Merrill Edge. Stephen lives with his wife, Meredith Colenda Collie ’01 and their daughter Avery in Charlotte. Shilpa Patel ’03 has accepted a position with Charlotte-based Electrolux North America in their internal audit department.

Joe Hanel ’84 (center, pictured with Dr. Hughlene Burton, chair of the Department of Accounting, and Dean Ott) was recently presented with the Outstanding Alumni Award by Beta Alpha Psi and the Department of Accounting at their fall banquet. Joe is a founding partner of Sherpa, a specialized staffing, recruiting and consulting firm headquartered in Charlotte that has been recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal, the Charlotte Chamber and Inc. magazine for its rapid growth and success. An active and loyal 49er, Joe has served on the Alumni Association Board and the Athletic Foundation Board. He also serves on the board of the Charlotte chapter of the N.C. Association of CPAs. “Joe has supported the Belk College and the Department of Accounting for many years, both with monetary gifts and his time,” said Dr. Hughlene Burton, chair of the Department of Accounting. “His firm sponsors scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students, and he has participated in our MACC orientation program for many years. He is a terrific example for our students that there are many things you can do in your career with a degree in Accounting.”

Stefanos Arethas ’04 has joined Moody’s as a lead CMBS ratings analyst in New York City. Previously, he was with BB&T in Washington, D.C. working in the Commercial Real Estate Lending Group. He completed his Masters in Real Estate from Georgetown University in 2011 and lives in Manhattan. Jessica Best ’04 recently joined Kraft Foods as a sales associate. She lives in Charlotte.

Ryan Petticord Hutchins ’05 and her husband Jeff welcomed son Kingston Hugh on May 31, 2011. The family lives in Kernersville, N.C. Wes Nguyen ’05 is a senior digital marketing consultant for StudioBanks, a Charlotte-based digital agency specializing in online marketing and web development.

Darin Spencer ’96 (MACC) and ’98 (MBA), CPA, is an assistant professor of accounting in the Ketner School of Business at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. He is in the coursework phase of the Ph.D. program in Business Administration (advanced accounting) at Northcentral University in Prescott Valley, Ariz. His research interests include auditing and accounting information systems.

Oliver Eichstedt ’00 (MBA) has a new position as VP, senior loan portfolio analyst with Wells Fargo’s Global Financial Institutions group in Charlotte.
