To Whom It May Concern

Not so long ago while visiting the museum, I paid attention to the paintings by Abraham Jacobi Bogdanove, the world-known artist born in Belarus. I was extremely disappointed that the museum shields attribute him as “the Russian” or “the Russian / American artist”. It is not true.

Abraham Jacobi Bogdanove — the famous American monumental artist, painter, designer, and teacher was born in Minsk, Belarus in September 1888. The artist spent the first 12 years of his life in Belarus. In Minsk, he was encouraged to draw and began his studies. The childhood impressions remained with him for the rest of his life.

In December 1900, when Abraham was 12, his family moved to New York. The boy studied at the Cooper Union School, the Artist Students League, the National Academy of Design, and the School of Architecture at Columbia University.

During his studies, Bogdanove drew advertisements for New York magazines. In 1909–1911, he received prizes for paintings at exhibitions at the National Academy. Abraham Bogdanove painted the murals in the building of the Hebrew Sheltering and Guardian Society in Pleasantville, in the Architectural League building, and in many high schools in New York.

Abraham Jacobi Bogdanove loved to spot ocean storms and thunderstorms. From 1913 to 1942 he taught in high schools and colleges in New York, for many years he was associated with the Townsend Harris Graduate School of New York College.

Abraham Bogdanove's works are preserved in various museums and galleries in the USA and Europe. And there is information about the artist's family in the archives of Belarus. The name of Abraham Jacobi Bogdanove, an American artist of Belarusian origin, deserves more close attention from Belarusian researchers.

I hope that in some time the works by Abraham Jacobi Bogdanove in the museum and many other museums globally will be appropriately identified.

I will be glad to receive an answer to my proposal.

Sincerely yours,
