There are, however, still some inequalities that persist. For example, in some colleges both locally and across the UK, girls are being targeted for causing a distraction due to the clothes they choose to wear. In some cases, yes, the clothes worn may be a little unacceptable for college. However girls not being allowed to, for example, show their shoulders because they are supposedly a distraction to male peers and teachers doesn’t seem quite right. This is particularly so when male students are allowed to wear shorts in some colleges. Sending a girl home and disrupting her education is deemed acceptable as a punishment, but what about punishing the males who objectify women? Public figures such as Emma Watson and Beyoncé have helped to raise the issues surrounding feminism, helping many more to understand and help create small steps towards a more equal world. Emma Watson once quoted ‘I have realised that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop’. It is also really encouraging to see that many young teens of both genders are raising awareness of gender equality and happily proclaiming themselves to be feminists. This can hopefully continue and society should gradually change to become even more equal. Article by Emma Snow You can now read more from me on my new blog: https://emmsnow.blogspot. co.uk
