Library Lines Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! (March 2) We will celebrate by learning what he did as an author and illustrator. Dr. Seuss wanted to write books for children that would be fun to read. Thus, he promoted a love of reading through his rhyming text and comical illustrations. We will practice the rhyming words while reading his books, Hop on Pop or Green Eggs and Ham. In his book, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut, Dr. Seuss offers these words of wisdom: “The more that you read, The more things you will know. The more that you learn, The more places you’ll go.” On Monday March 3, all classes will have a “Suessical” Celebration and participate in the Read Across America Program by reading a Dr. Suess book donning “Cat in the Hat” hats! We will also sing or read the rhyming stories of The Lady with the Alligator Purse, Ten Naughty Little Monkeys, and Do Your Ears Hang Low? Some classes will read What Can You Do with a Rebozo? by Carmen Tafolla and discuss the many uses for the traditional Mexican woven shawl. What would you do with a rebozo? Other favorite Dr. Seuss books are: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish The Cat in the Hat Green Eggs and Ham I Can Read With My Eyes Shut El Gato en Sombrerado Huevos verdes con jamón I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful parent volunteers, including the PTA Board members, who helped with the Scholastic Book Fair in February. I appreciated the many food donations for the teachers “Chew and View” event. Kudos to Shanda Harris for coordinating the volunteers. Our Beaty parents are fantastic partners in education!
