Pasadena Theatre Program Summer Shows

Happily Ever After is how you might feel after forty-five or so 4th, 5th and 6th graders from Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre perform for you this Thursday, July 29, in the sixteenth year of the Pasadena Musical Theater Program. PMPT Senior Company (students in grades 7-12) will continue to rehearse Positively Wicked, with shows on August 5 and 6. Music by Stephen Schwartz from Wicked, Pippin, Pocahontas and more is featured as Wickett High School witnesses green-haired Ellie and head cheerleader Linda meeting head-on…with unexpected results! Director Ryan Scott Oliver, (also executive director of PMTP) utilizes the experience and skills of many returning veterans among approximately eighty students in the Senior Company. Also a best bet for all ages, Positively Wicked will be performed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, and at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 6 at PHS. Suggested donation for all performances is $12. Many students have taken extra classes offered in acting, singing, dancing, piano and playwriting. PMPT alumni often go on to top colleges, and many (including Clark and Oliver) find solid careers in the performing arts. There are industry pros helping out at all levels, ensuring a first-class experience for the students and great shows for the audiences. Discounted group tickets: Sherry Oliver [626-437-

Final Plea for Host Families for Foreign Teens

Foreign high school students are scheduled to arrive soon for academic semester and year homestay programs, and the sponsoring organization needs a few more local host families. The students are anxiously awaiting news of their new families. This is the last chance for these young ambassadors to fulfill their life-long dreams, and their placement deadlines are rapidly approaching. According to Pacific Intercultural Exchange (P.I.E.) President, John Doty, the students are all between the ages of 15 and 18 years, are English-speaking, have their own spending money, carry accident and health insurance, and are anxious to share their cultural experiences with their new American families. P.I.E. currently has programs to match almost every family's needs, ranging in length from one semester to a full academic year, where the students attend local public and private high schools. Families who host for P.I.E. are also eligible to claim a monthly charitable contribution deduction on their itemized tax returns for each month they host a sponsored student. Doty encourages families to contact the program immediately, as it will allow the proper time for the students and hosts to get to know one another before they actually meet for the first time. Families interested in learning more about student exchange or arranging for a meeting with a community representative may call P.I.E., toll-free, at 1-866-546-1402. The agency also has travel/ study program opportunities available for American high school students as well as possibilities for community volunteers to assist and work with area host families, students and schools.
