LOS ANGELES L.A. County News LA County Library Starts Sidewalk Service at Select Locations In accordance with revised Public Health orders, L.A. County Library is offering sidewalk service holds pickup at select library locations beginning Monday, June 8. All bookdrops will also reopen for item returns that day. Sidewalk service begins at 24 libraries, listed at LACountyLibrary.org/ express-service. Holds may be picked up Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Libraries remain closed to the public, but staff are answering phone lines during the hours of 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday - Friday. Herald Christian Health Center to Launching a Free COVID-19 Testing Location The Herald Christian Health Center is launching a free COVID-19 testing location for anyone with COVID-19 symptoms and all asymptomatic essential workers. The center is the only site in the West San Gabriel Valley community that is able to provide such testing with English, Mandarin and Cantonesespeaking staff. The test is a self-administered nasal swab under the supervision of a healthcare professional and results are reported to patients within 2-3 days. Those who wish to receive a test must call (626) 2868700 to schedule an appointment. The center, located at 923 S. San Gabriel Blvd. in San Gabriel, will open on June 4.

Mountain View High School senior Cindy Lee, this year’s top valedictorian for the Class of 2020, has been named a 2020 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Scholar, one of only 300 students across the nation to receive the full-tuition scholarship. Lee will attend her dream university, UC Irvine, where she will major in data science and pursue a graduate degree. “When I found out I won, I didn’t believe it. Receiving the Gates scholarship and going to UC Irvine is incredible,” said Lee.

The Certified Farmers’ Market returned to the City of Rosemead on Monday. Visit the Farmers’ Market each Monday evening from 5-9 p.m. The Farmers Market will feature fruits, vegetables, prepackaged foods such as nuts, popcorn, honey and much more. In order to maintain the safety of the community all social distancing guidelines will be followed. The market will operate until Sept. 28, 2020. day approved $45 million in grant funding to aid small businesses enduring hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic. The program is open to small businesses based in cities and unincorporated communities of Riverside County. These businesses must apply online from June 3 to June 19. The grant will provide up to $10,000 in assistance to individual businesses. Applications will be accepted and recommended for grant approval based on meeting requirements. Available funding is limited. The awarded businesses will be chosen by an automated random selection process by Main Street Launch, a third-party nonprofit. While the city has relaxed enforcement on parking citations for street sweeping since the state stay-at-home order began, it is now asking residents to move cars on your street sweeping day. The city will start issuing citations on June 15. For now, the city will not enforce other parking violations such as permit parking but will continue to cite those who are posing a risk to public safety, such as parking in an alley or on a red curb.

The Corona Fire Department is preparing to establish a Fire Safe Council made up of residents and fire officials to prepare the community for catastrophic wildfires. The city is sking Corona homeowners to take a 10-question Wildland Preparedness Survey that will provide immediate personalized feedback. These survey responses will provide the Fire Department valuable information needed to move the Fire Safe Council in a forward direction. Survey responses will be entered into a drawing to win up to $5,000 in material and labor for a soffit vent home installation. Soffit vents prevent flying embers from entering homes. ing. City of San Bernardino News Looters Set Fire to DMV in San Bernardino Protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in San Bernardino saw the DMV on Waterman Avenue and 13th Street set on fire. A man was seen on video breaking inside and using what looks like a torch to set items ablaze. San Bernardino Fire Department crews were able to extinguish the flames before they destroyed the building. Ontario News New Hours for Check Out, Ontario On Monday, June 1, 2020 the Ontario City Library extended the hours of operation for Check Out, Ontario, the library’s holds pickup service. Pick up is now available Monday through Friday, from 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Ovitt Family Community Library. Customers can place up to ten holds through the library’s online catalog or by calling the library directly. Customers picking up material are asked to bring their library card, wear a face covering, and practice physical distancing from others visiting the library.
