This year’s brunch included women whose sons, grandsons, or husbands, matriculated from various troops throughout the San Gabriel Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The highlight of the morning was guest speaker Cliff Shiepe. A graduate of San Marino High School and the University of Southern California, and founder and Creative Director of Cliff Falls Media, Inc., Cliff wrote his book during a time period when he battled through health issues that left him bed ridden for periods of time. relating to religion, kindness, and understanding of who we are and where we are going. He book is about a child star who has started a fire and searching for the true meaning in his life. His book Cliff Falls has the reader and the child star searching to determine if the “Falls” truly exist. Cliff shared that many people in recovery
for various addictions are drawn to his book and in April of 2014 he will present his book in play form to the residents at the Betty Ford Center in Palm Desert where he has spoken previously. Cliff emphasized how important mothers are in one’s life and he has learned what it means to be a real man from his mom.
Hit Musical------“The Fantasticks” opens June 7th at Sierra Madre Playhouse “The Fantasticks” is one of the American musical theatre’s most enduringly popular musicals. It ran off-Broadway for 46 straight years, 1960-2002, then reopened in 2006 and is still running in New York today. But you don’t have to fly to New York to see it. It’s coming to the Sierra Madre Playhouse. It begins as a tale of young true first love, as nextdoor-neighbors Matt and Luisa, grown up together, fall for each other. Their fathers approve, and conspire to bring them closer
together. Once the young man and woman learn of their father’s approval, they reject their dads’ plan (as kids always do). Matt sets off on adventures to experience the world. Luisa stays close to home but, separated from Matt, she encounters temptations They are each hurt a bit by the world, as the world can inflict pain and sometimes does. After a bitter taste of disillusionment, Matt. And Luisa find their way back to each other, with a wiser, more mature and deeper love for each other.
It’s a simple story, to be sure, but one that has resonated with audiences for half a century, with classic songs like “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” James Fowler and Barbara Schofield direct a cast that includes Michael Anthony, Daniel Bellusci, Kelsey Hainlen, Peter Miller, Barry Saltzman and John Szura. Family Nature Hike-Sturtevant Falls Saturday July 27th, 7:30 AM - SHARP!!! We will meet at the Community Center at 7:30 AM sharp and board a bus to the trailhead in Sierra Madre and enjoy a relatively easy hike that totals 3.7 miloe4s round trip. Join us as we hike through Big Santa Anita Canyon via Chantry Flat to a 50foot waterfall. The thick chaparral and lush scenery offers a delightful saunter. Along the creek side trail
you are soothed by the sights and sounds of sparkling water playfully dancing and splashing under a canopy of Alder, Oak and Willow. Along the route you will also see dozens of rustic cabins that were built in the early 1900’s. Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. At the end of our hike we will enjoy a picnic lunch. Children must be accompanied by
