Opinion Dreams come true with Scott Jenkins By Harry Sneider The Greatest Show in the San Gabriel Valley is the Rose Parade. This next great annual extravaganza will be the 125th Rose Parade which includes floats, marching bands, and equestrian units that will be led by Scott Jenkins. I had a chance to spend a little bit of time with Scott at the annual Shakespeare Club Luncheon with other dignities, the 1962 Rose Queen Martha (Sissel) Bell as well as members of the WASP (flying women from World War II) and the Rose Princesses. It was a joyous occasion with 50 year members Jeanette and Dick Parker. Jeanette read from the Dr. Suess book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”. We had a nice message from last year’s president Sally Bixby. The Shakespeare Club is the oldest social club in the San Gabriel Valley. It goes back to 1897. It’s located on Grand Avenue not too far from Ambassador College where I was a faculty mem-
ber for many years. There is a beautiful interior in the club which has a great logo of William Shakespeare overlooking a stage with a classic piano. This traditional gathering is an event that you would enjoy very much. It’s intimate enough that you can meet some of the leading citizens in our great community. Scott, who is an avid mountain climber, looks very healthy, athletic, and determined to make this next year’s parade and activities surrounding it THE BEST EVER! He has served diligently in the Rose Parade Committee for the last 30 years. Scott is an INNOVATOR. He wants to cut down on the sizes of the bands, he also would like to cut back a few equestrian units, and would like the floats to be more flower oriented. He also would like a “Cirque du Soliel” type element between the floats with a concept of having the viewers on the streets more energized with
the parade. Millions of people worldwide look forward to this great event annually. It takes year-long preparation to get the details ready. Scott is a very strong leader in the Tournament and wants to share the beauty of the parade as well as the football game and other events leading up to 2014. Look forward to the next parade that will be the greatest ever. We are truly blessed to live in Southern California. God has provided us with a great place to live and share this beauty with others. Be sure that you are staying healthy and well that you can make this next coming year a year as a landmark event in you and your family’s life by attending this great parade. 1. Set a goal that you will attend the parade. 2. Exercise and eat healthy. 3. Be an ambassador of good will and talk up the parade. 4. Volunteer and help your local city with the parade. 5. The theme of next year’s parade

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27), along with Congressman Howard Coble (NC-6), Chair of the House Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, launched the new Congressional Creative Rights Caucus for the 113th Congress. The Congresswoman is currently the most senior Member on the subcommittee from the Los Angeles region. “American innovation hinges on creativity – it is what allows our kids to dream big and our artists to create works
that inspire us all. The jobs that result are thanks entirely to our willingness to foster creative talent, and an environment where it can thrive and prosper. “Serving that notion is exactly what this new caucus will do, and I’m thrilled to have Congressman Coble as my Co-Chair. He has a long record on supporting greater protections for American ingenuity and intellectual property. I look forward to continuing that work with him on these important issues,” said Rep. Chu.

“The economic contributions made by the creative community keep our nation competitive in a global economy. These works are among our most precious exports because the ingenuity, skill, and craftsmanship of American creators cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the world,” said Rep. Coble. The Congressional Creative Rights Caucus will serve to educate Members of Congress and the general public about the importance of preserving and protecting the rights of the creative com-
munity in the U.S. American creators of motion pictures, music, software, and other creative works rely on Congress to protect their copyrights, human rights, First Amendment rights, and property rights. The motion picture industry has a strong economic presence in Rep. Chu’s current district. According to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), $437 million is paid by their member studios to local businesses, and almost 140,000 jobs are in direct film and television in Los Angeles County.
