City Council meeting held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Firefighter Specialist Andrew Ahten is a nine year veteran of the LA County Fire Department and is carrying on a tradi-

FFS Ahten was born in the city of Glendale, raised in Burbank and La Crescenta. He graduated from Crescenta Valley High School and obtained his Fire Science Associate degree from Glendale Community College. Andy began his service with LA Co FD as an Explorer, working as an LA Co FD student worker in the Health Hazardous Materials Division, and then as an LA Co FD Utility Driver for Battalion 3 in the East Los Angeles area. In 1996, he was hired by the California Highway Patrol, where he served as an Officer in the Altadena Area and performed duties with the Southern Division Investigative Services Unit until he was hired by the LA Co FD in 2004. Since joining the Fire Department in 2004, Andy has had the privilege of serving the Cities of El Monte, Rowland Heights,

Temple City, and the unincorporated area of Valencia. Andy is a dedicated member of the Fire Department as is evident by his active involvement in additional duties. Serving as a Hazardous Materials Specialist, he is a member of the HazMat committee, HazMat instructor, HazMat Assistant Safety Officer, Terrorism Liaison Officer, and Terrorism Bombing Response Instructor. He is an active member of the Honor Guard, an Apparatus Operator Course Instructor, Fire Ground Survival Instructor, as well as a certified Peer Fitness Trainer. FFS Ahten currently resides in the community of Shadow Hills in Los Angeles with his wife Nicole and their children, Natalie, Alia, and Anne. In addition to his passion for serving the community, Andy enjoys spending time outdoors with his family camping, scuba diving, and working on home improvements.
