Community Invited to Economic Development Meeting May 10 Pasadena business owners, local employers and others interested in improving our local economy are encouraged to attend a public meeting of the city’s Economic Development Task Force to help prioritize economic development strategies. The meeting begins at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 10, on the second floor of the Pasadena Conference Center, 300 E. Green St. The meeting is open to the
public. “The Economic Development Strategic Plan is an important tool to help guide future economic development in Pasadena. A positive, growing economy helps us maintain Pasadena’s high quality of life and traditions as a great place to live, work, shop and learn,” Pasadena City Manager Michael Beck said. The combined experiences of Task Force
members allows for an informed discussion about what really drives local investment and employment decisions in Pasadena. The Task Force will meet through the end of 2012. During the competition, students demonstrated their knowledge of the Constitution before simulated congressional committees made up of state supreme court judges, constitutional scholars, lawyers, public officials and We the People alumni. The first rounds of the hearings took place on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. Today, the top-10 schools
competed in actual congressional hearing rooms on Capitol Hill. The panel of judges tested the expertise of the classes on the six units of the We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution textbook: What Are the Philosophical and Historical Foundations of the American Political System? How Did the Framers Create the Constitution? How Has the Constitution Been Changed to Further the Ideals Contained in the Declaration of Independence? How Have the Values and Principles Embodied in the Constitution Shaped American Institutions and Practices? What Rights Does the
Bill of Rights Protect? and What Challenges Might Face American Constitutional Democracy in the Twenty-first Century?
