Open Farm Day is a wholesome, economical family adventure, a hayride of fun, and an event you won’t want to miss. As of press time, June 26, 112 farms across Maine plan to open their doors on Sunday, July 22 to offer the public the opportunity to learn about the bountiful business of agriculture. This year marks the 23rd year of
celebrating Maine’s Open Farm Day. Farms around the state are committed and passionate about ensuring the sustainability of agriculture. Maine’s farms have given back to their communities by providing a forum for education and learning in a fun atmosphere. With much to experience, this year’s Open Farm Day offers a chance
for you and your family to visit farms across the state. Visiting hours are generally 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., although some farms are extending their hours for special events. Many farms will have demonstrations, displays, farmraised products, and animals and crops to experience. Activities include barn and field tours, milking,

Harvest Hill Farms Peter & Kathie Bolduc 125 Pigeon Hill Road, Mechanic Falls Range-Fed Livestock OFD: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. HA (some areas); RR; BG Family-owned farm raises range-fed beef, bison, turkeys, chickens, pigs/pork. We sell these hormone- and antibiotic-free healthy meat products in our Farm Market and in our pizzas and sandwiches in our Farm House Pizza shop. Offering tours through our Petting Barn and barnyard. Participants can purchase animal feed at dispeners for a small fee. Tour includes information on the farm’s history over the last century, with historic prints of the farm. Directions: On Route 26, half-mile north of Routes 26/11 intersection, about 20 min. north of Turnpike Exit 63.

Offers over 100 clematis varieties, plus all the help you need to succeed. Learn how to make herbal vinegars and oils, herbal teas, pesto, and other delicacies. Find out how to preserve herbs. Join us for a Farm Tour at 1 p.m. Bring your camera and your questions. Visit the Hummingbird Shop for gifts and garden supplies, stroll in the herb garden, sit under our clematis-covered arbor. Refreshments available. Directions: From the intersection of Routes 4/219 in North Turner, take Route 219 West. Bean Street is first right-hand turn. We’re 0.9 mile on the left.

Offers certified Beginning Herbalist course; promoting rich natural herbal apothecary. Home to the “Old Log Drivers” traditional herbal product line. Catalogs available. Tours by appointment. Fish ponds and herb gardens. Live music, gift drawing each hour on OFD. Directions: Across from the Lidstone Methodist Church in Washburn. Turn onto Church Street. Church Street turns into the New Dunn Town Road in Wade; 3 miles from church on right. McElwain’s Strawberry Farm Frank & Joan McElwain, 693 Sweden St., Caribou OFD: Noon - 4 p.m. HA; RR; BG Strawberries for U-pick and pre-picked sale. We also grow pumpkins, squash, sweet corn and a variety of other vegetables for sale at our roadside stand. On OFD we will provide tractor drawn wagon rides that will include a farm tour with stops to explain how our crops are grown. The U-pick strawberry field should be open. Directions: On Route 161, 2 miles north of Caribou High School, just before the Caribou Country Club. Orchard Hill Farm Stan and Gail Maynard , 507 Pratt Rd., Woodland Organic Beef Cattle OFD: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Home to 95 purebred Highland cattle. These long-horned, shaggy beasties — one of the world’s oldest breeds — are known for their hardiness and docile temperament. The Maynards market breeding stock and MOFGA-certified organic, grass-fed,
hayrides, petting zoos, nature trails, beautiful scenery, samples for tasting, and refreshments. Many farms are handicapped accessible and, have restrooms, and can handle group or bus tours. They’re indicated with their hours as HA (handicapped accessible), RR
grass-finished beef. Visitors will get info on beef production, rotational grazing, forage management, conservation practices. Meet the season’s spring calves, have coffee or lemonade, maybe sample some Highland beef. Directions: From Caribou: Route 161 north; right on Colby Siding Rd. Go to end; right on Pratt. At 1/4 mile, stay right; go to hill top. Farm is on right; watch for signs.
