Renfroe brought a 2.15 ERA and 168 strikeouts into the action, while Hosfield's ERA sits at 3.02 with 106 strikeouts. But with command of her changeup Friday night, Hosfield kept the mighty Gators pinned down.. Hosfield's Achilles' heel had been lapses in her control. The Murfreesboro Riverdale product surrendered 18 home runs in 38 appearances, but Florida didn't manage a hard-hit ball in the seven innings she worked. Hosfield's mix of off-speed and movement pitches compliments the fire-balling Renfroe well. "The fact that their styles are so different is a really good thing,'' Karen Weekly said. "One may match up better with one opponent than the other. That's where Cat developing that changeup in the offseason has been so critical.'' Renfroe's changeup is a work in progress, but once established it will make her 68 mph fastball considerably more effective. "Our whole league is becoming a hitting league, and Florida and Alabama have been at the front of it,'' Ralph Weekly said. "Each lineup in the SEC presents problems for pitchers, especially young pitchers.'' Especially late in games. UT has outscored its opponents in every inning except the seventh, where the Lady Vols have been outscored 31-5. UT has led or been tied with its opponent heading into the sixth inning in six of its nine losses this season. On Friday, the Weeklys started Renfroe before bringing in Hosfield around the midway point of each game. "Since the Georgia series (March 20-21) we've gone into every game telling each pitcher to be ready to go four innings,'' said Karen Weekly, who calls the pitches. "If they're still going strong after four innings, we'll leave them in there. That approach has helped each one handle games better.''
