Letter from the Managing Editor
I am delighted to present the Spring 2022 edition of the Barnard-Columbia Urban Review. As someone more newly involved in the publication, the chance to see the review come to life each semester, first as a peer reviewer and contributor, and now as the managing editor, has been incredibly humbling and rewarding. Each issue is a testament to the talent and dedication of many students on this campus, and this issue particularly so. Brimming with art, this issue brings the journal in a new direction by uniquely showcasing undergraduate urban scholarship and study in deeply creative and visual ways. This array of art beautifully captures both mundane and grand aspects of our current urban environment, as well as prompts us to visualize particular urban futures or possibilities. As Maddy Liberman steps down as Editor-in-Chief and BCUR looks ahead to another school year, I am honored and incredibly excited to take on the role of CoEditor-in-Chief along with Victoria Tse. With a clear—if newly established— legacy to carry on, I am excited to continue BCUR’s cherished traditions of quality student scholarship, collaboration,, and intellectual curiosity. Time and time again, I have found myself amazed at the talent present in every aspect of this publication—from the incredible submissions, to the intellect required in every step of the editing process, to the stunning layout of the review, to the wonderful events put on by BCUR members. As one of many entirely student run publications on campus, BCUR exemplifies the commitment its students have to eachother and to the production of quality scholarship. Now, thanks to those peoples’ hard work, the Spring 2022 issue stands before us. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
