Promis Modernization Continues

The PROMIS team continued to make progress on the migration of functionality from PROMIS Classic over to PROMIS 4.

2023 saw the movement of functionality related to Home Hemodialysis, Dialysis Status, Clinical Trials, and the entire Dialysis Scheduling module. The re-release of the Medications module in PROMIS 4 was another critical module scheduled to move before the end of the year.

High levels of end-user input have been incorporated in the development of both the Dialysis Scheduling and Medications modules to ensure they meet the needs of our user community. For Medications, this meant the module was redesigned after multiple stakeholder engagement sessions – including reaching out to those who shared concerns after the first release – in order to come up with a design that allowed for improved efficiency within the PROMIS 4 user workflow. For Dialysis Scheduling, it meant onboarding user feedback late in the development cycle, even though that required us to make changes very close to our release date.

While we also continue to address initiatives that need urgent attention, the PROMIS Modernization project is the team’s top priority. Supported by additional funding from PHSA, we will be accelerating our redevelopment of the remaining Classic modules.

Other Highlights

New functionality to support BC Transplant programs including:

• New Transplant Vaccination Status report

• Inclusion of HistoTrac lab management system “Willing to Cross” values in Recipient Immunology

• Support for the Interprovincial Organ Sharing of Hearts for High-Status Recipients project (referred to as the “IPOS Heart project”)

“It’s important that we modernize PROMIS to ensure the ongoing stability and usability of the application, which is foundational to the renal funding model and to delivery of care. Moving over the larger modules this year ensures those key elements will continue to be available to support life support care provincially. With every module migrated, we also aim to improve the end user experience.”
