• be flexible and innovative in carrying out its mandate. The funds we provide to Legal Services Society are used in a variety of ways as the LSS Board and management work to meet the mandate set out in their Act. The funds are used separately from funds provided to the Government, in creative ways to fund worthwhile legal projects through BC. A few years ago, we combined funding and resources with the Law Foundation of BC and Legal Services Society to create a Legal Research Fund that focuses on funding for groups that will provide research for access to Justice. Recently our joint fund provided three grants to support groups that provide support for Aboriginal Child Protection research and program development. We also recently supplied funds for a project to document the Experience of First Nations Courts in BC. I am pleased to announce we have recently provided funds for a bursary at Douglas College that will have as its focus funding for First Nation students. The bursary will be known as the Wayne Strandlund Fund. Wayne was a longtime and very valuable member of our Board of Governors. When his final term was up, he generously provided The Notary Foundation with some seed money for a First Nations initiative. What will the next 30 years bring? The Notary Foundation plans to be a funder and leader in the field of access to justice. The members of The Society of Notaries Public of BC are ready, willing, and able to be active participants in solutions for those with unresolved legal needs. s The Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia
