Isabelle is progressing to the University of Sheffield to read Biomedical Science, before following her mum’s footsteps into the NHS in genetics or transfusion.

Abigail Geary

A Levels – Biology (A), Chemistry (A) and Environmental Science (A).

Reading Biology at the University of Oxford.

Abigail has always had a passion for Biology.

She came to Preview Day with her school and loved the facilities and the light open spaces. The range of A Levels on offer meant she could study Environmental Science, which really appealed to her.

“My tutors have made a huge difference as they were so supportive throughout my uni application and interview.

“When I travelled to Oxford to look around the university, I knew straight away it was the place for me.”

Her ultimate goal is to work as a Genetic Engineer.

Reading Geography at the University of Oxford.

Eli set his heart on Burnley College at one of our Open Evenings, where he was impressed by the array of options available to him, as well as the welcoming atmosphere.

“Burnley College is a really close community where you get to know your tutors and they’re so supportive.”

Eli shone in enrichment activities including Tackling Climate Change Club and the Modern Languages magazine, Triolingo. His favourite trip was visiting Keswick to complete field work with his Environmental Science class.

How to buy a 16-25 Railcard

The Railcard is the UK’s student rail card, offering 1/3 off most train fares. This can be purchased from any staffed ticket office or online. You may be eligible for a travel grant depending on your household income (subject to conditions). For more info email: s.support@burnley.ac.uk

Bus Passes

• Travel on any Transdev* (Lancashire) or First Bus (Yorkshire) routes

• Passes can be used on evenings and weekends

• See our bus travel incentive for how you could get your bus pass for FREE

Lancashire

Bus passes are available for Transdev Services throughout Lancashire. Your college, evening and weekend bus travel will all be covered on your pass.

*If you live in an area not served by Transdev, like Fence, Rosehill or Sabden, we will help you to purchase a Lancashire County Council bus pass.

How to Buy a Pass

New Students will receive instructions in their enrolment pack about how to purchase their Student Bus Pass.

Returning Students will be emailed with information about how to renew their passes.

Yorkshire

You will be able to purchase a First Bus pass, which can also be used at evenings and weekends.

HOW TO GET YOUR BUS PASS FOR FREE

If you achieve 100% attendance in a term, we will reimburse you the full cost of your bus pass (term 2 & 3 are combined).

You may also be eligible for free travel, depending on your household income (subject to conditions).

Academic Pathway

If you’re looking for an excellent academic foundation to take you on to University study and a successful career, A Levels will suit you. You will dive into the theory, building on your existing knowledge and developing your academic skills.

Vocational

Technical Pathway

Vocational courses offer more coursework-based learning, a range of hands-on activities and fewer exams. As a Vocational student you will experience exciting trips and activities and visits from guest speakers, as you head towards a dream career with a leading employer, or progress onto University or a Degree Apprenticeship.

T Levels

Technical Pathway

As a T Level Student you’ll gain in-depth academic and theoretical knowledge while studying with expert tutors in College, before heading out into industry for a minimum of 315 hours of work placement where you will put your skills and knowledge into practice.

Apprenticeships

Combine work and study through on the job training with classroom learning. Themis is the Apprenticeship arm of Burnley College, working with more than 1000 leading employers to help you take your first step on the career ladder. You will be supported by our industry-leading Trainers throughout.

Create your own programme, based on the A Level subjects you are most interested in. As well as experiencing the subjects that inspire you, you’ll be able to challenge your critical thinking and problemsolving skills with interactive workshops, seminars and enrichment activities.
