Disaster Risk Reduction Committee
the 2020 digital conference entitled, executive mindset: evolved thinking for Business Leaders, was organized by the digital societies Committee. the event took place on november 13, 2020 via Zoom. the conference provided participants with insights into how they could operate in the digital era and ensure alignment with the digital transformation of Barbados.
due to insufficient consumer behaviour data, the Committee initiated a survey to evaluate customers’ behaviour and online services adoption. the data from this survey formed the basis of the data analytics presentation for the digital conference. the survey was executed by the digital Ambassadors from the national Council for science and technology at various service providers such as surepay, commercial banks, credit unions and post offices at various locations.

the disaster risk reduction Committee mandate includes overseeing the Chamber’s participation in the department of emergency management’s (dem) annual disaster management programme, as well as supporting the implementation the memorandum of understanding between dem, the Chamber, united nations office for disaster risk reduction (unIsdr) and Caribbean-Central American Action (CCAA).
As part of its objective to facilitate disaster preparedness education and training, the Committee assisted the BCCI secretariat with the planning of a virtual webinar entitled, Broadening our risk perspective: understanding risk in an evolving World which was held on october 02, 2020. the session targeted small and medium-sized enterprises and was geared to help them better manage risk and mitigate losses during times of uncertainty, especially against the background of the global coronavirus pandemic and other environmental risks. It demonstrated the need for a new level of preparedness and risk management in business continuity strategies.
