during the period under review, the Committee undertook a review of the draft Customs Bill, 2019 as it contained several legislative changes which could impact businesses across Barbados. the Committee thought it prudent for the business sector to be adequately informed on the contents of the Customs Bill and afforded the opportunity to comment on the components of the Bill. A working group of the Committee co-ordinated a series of consultations in conjunction with the Customs and excise department (Ced) to facilitate review of the Customs Bill, 2019.
following the Customs Bill Consultations, the BCCI engaged a trade consultant to review the responses and comments given by members of the business sector from the consultations held in August 2020, as well as to craft an official private sector response to the Customs Bill. the consultant’s final report on the analysis of the Customs Bill was submitted to the Ced on december 21, 2020.
