Horsham District Indoor Bowls Club ……………..is tucked away at the bottom of Tesco’s car park, next door to The Bridge leisure centre. If you’ve never been inside, you will be amazed when you walk through the door. The building houses a huge green for playing bowls, 4 mats for short mat bowls, a large seating area alongside the members bar and a restaurant run by our caterer, Chris Cunningham all this with a free car park outside. Our members, all ages ranging from 8yrs through to 90+, are able to play bowls at all levels, from County matches to internal fun sessions and we are open every day of the week, morning to evening, all year round. We have a variety of social activities throughout the year with social membership available to take advantage of these as well as the bar and restaurant. We recently held a fun competition a Stick Drive for both short and long mat players. With over 40 members taking part, it was great fun, a bit competitive and followed by a delicious brunch in our club restaurant. On Saturday 17 September we are holding an Open Day from 10.00 until 3.00, giving everyone the opportunity to look around, try your hand at playing bowls and chat to members. The bar and restaurant will be open so you can also have a drink and something to eat if you wish. We look forward to welcoming you to our Open Day and showing you what we can offer.

The end of the cricket season is upon us, and as of writing, both the BBHCC First and Second XI have a shot for promotion from their respective leagues. With three games left, the First XI sit in second place, whilst the Second XI sit in 3rd with the top two teams gaining promotion from each league. It promises to be a tense end to the season, and to cap off the season, the traditional “Biryani Game” will have been held on the 3rd or 4th September. The club has been fortunate enough to reward the volunteers working for the club with a trip to Hove to watch Sussex vs Surrey in the Royal London One Day Cup. Sussex comfortably, won led by their captain Cheteshwar Pujara, who came out to sign a few shirts for the grateful fans. In the middle to end of September there will be some levelling work on the top of the BBH ground, and parts may be fenced off until it settles down. Thank you to all the supporters that have turned up over the course of the season to cheer on the teams, the atmosphere and spirit of cricket seems to have returned after a brief 2 year hiatus. 2nd Broadbridge Heath Guides

The guides have just returned from summer camp. On our first day the girls walked to a nearby attraction, the Rural Life Museum where we learned how to make reed lights which were used by county folk in the evening as they couldn't afford candles and how to make hand made dowels. At camp our onsite activities included archery, grass sledging, geocaching and a zip wire. The theme for our camp was the circus, the girls enjoyed learning a number of circus skills including plate spinning, diablo skills, balloon modelling and juggling which they then used to complete a wide game that ended in a circus show. We ended our camp with a cooling splash in the river Wey and camp doughnuts:) We have had a wonderful camp and we are already looking forward to summer camp 2023. We have spaces available for girls aged 10-14 in our unit please contact Sharon Newman bbhguides@gmail.com for more information on how to register your daughter on the girlguiding website.

4 1st Broadbridge Heath Rainbows

In July the Rainbows enjoyed a day at Blackland Farm for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. The girls took part in a number of activities, the first was sucker archer which after a couple of practice goes the rainbows showed they had a great aim. Our next activity was the nightline, the girls wore a blindfold and held onto the girl in front with their left hand and a rope with their right as they passed through a number of obstacles. The girls were excited but nervous to start with but after the activity they were buzzing. Our last activity was the bungee trampolines where the girls squealed to go higher! We finished the summer term learning how to fire light and having fun playing water games.

The summer term ended with a series of water fights at the District campsite a very welcome finale for our overheated Scouts, Cubs and Beavers who came home dripping and delighted with the world. With the summer holidays upon us that could only mean one thing for Scouting camp! Our Cubs enjoyed their first overnight camp since 2019 and had an amazing time putting their camp craft to good use. It’s now the turn of the Scouts, who have been planning their camp for several months and are looking forward to mountain climbing, go karting, and zip lining alongside campfire cooking, hiking and wide Wegames.have received a very kind offer from a local resident to pay the subs for a year for a child who has arrived from Ukraine in the current crisis if you are aware of anyone who would wish to do so, please do let us know as we would be delighted to do so. We are always on the look out for volunteers to join our friendly team on Committee or as Group Leaders if you would be interested, even in a very small role, please contact our Group Scout Leader James (gsl1bbh@horshamscouts.com). We’ve certainly been busy so far this summer! We had a lovely time at the village fete, meeting new friends as well as all our regular visitors and, this year, we sold out before the end of the day. Our most popular offerings included lemon drizzle cakes, traybakescupcakes, fruit cakes, rock cakes, gingerbread and, of course you snapped up our coffee and walnut cake, fruit crumbles, and award winning fudge. I think you’ll need to come a bit earlier next year to be sure of getting your favourites! Next in our diary was the annual Garden Party. Like last year, we were completely plastic free (it wasn’t such a challenge this year, as the more we keep doing our bit for the environment, the easier it gets), and a cream tea really is a little more special with proper cutlery and lovely china isn’t it? We commemorated the Jubilee year by decorating a hat or making a corsage in red, white and blue to wear at the Garden Party. This very elegant creation won Lynda a beautiful plant. Every year West Sussex WI Federation arranges a county wide quiz and, as we always like to exercise our brains, we sent two teams this year. What a clever bunch! Both our teams did well, coming joint second and third. Well done ladies! Naturally, we also managed to fit in another fish and chips supper and a couple of cinema trips, before getting together to plan our programme for next year. There were so many brilliant suggestions, we’ll have trouble fitting them all in — so watch this space….. Meanwhile, we still have a couple of theatre trips, a day at the races, another art master class and a few other things to look forward to. If you’d like to join us, you’ll be made very welcome. You don’t have to decide straight away, you can pop along and meet us before making up your mind. We’re at St John’s Hall at 2.30 on the second Tuesday in the month or you can contact us if you’d like some more information: Broadbridge Heath WI Email: BBHWI@uwclub.net or phone Jacqui on 01403 754718 or Maureen on 01403 268963 Sold Out!

Broadbridge Bombshells W.I. June saw the return of the village fete and we were really excited to be a part of it again after the 2 year break. Lots of you saw us there, came and said hello and bought a slice of cake. We would like to thank you for making our stall such a success. If you chatted to us at the fete about joining the WI, our next meeting on Sept 27th would be a perfect time to come along as it is going to be all about the menopause. So if you’re pre, peri or even post menopause this meeting is for you! Our menopause expert will be on hand for advice and questions, and the rest of the Bombshells will be there to share our experiences… good and bad. Now to tell you about what we’ve been up to at our last couple of meetings. In June we spent the evening with Lesley, from The Horsham Gingerbread Bakehouse, sampling delicious gingerbreads, which are all baked in a small, family bakery near Chichester. Horsham gingerbread can be dated back to July 1803, when Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote to his aunt asking her to get some gingerbread to take on a picnic. Talking of picnics, July’s meeting was held on the Ducky where we had a lovely social evening chatting and indulging in a picnic, there was even a game of rounders on offer for those of us who were feeling energetic and Prosecco for those who weren’t! We’ve also had numerous coffee mornings and cocktail club nights pictured below. We are always pleased to welcome new members to our friendly group, so if all this sounds like your idea of fun, then please check out our website and Facebook page or email our President Rowena for further information email: bbhwi1951@gmail.com website: https://www.broadbridgebombshellswi.co.uk/

11 I wonder what questions you have that are unanswered at the moment? How will I be able to afford my energy bills this CouldCanWinter?Itrustpoliticians?England’smenwin the world cup this year? We all have questions and some of the most fundamental ones we all have relate to why we are here and the meaning of life. Alpha is an opportunity to explore life’s big questions together in an open, informal environment. Last year, approximately 30,000 churches and organisations ran Alpha with over 1.3 million participants. Alpha is a series of interactive sessions taking the form of a free meal in the church hall, a short video, followed by a group discussion that explores the basics of the Christian faith. Rev. Dr. Mark Lavender Will matters Fully trained and insured Willwriters Regulated by the Institute of Professional Willwriters Full range of services with fixed prices Appointments in your own home Evening and weekend appointments available Please call: Claire Gordon on 01403 791337 or 07551 claire@willmatters.org303002 www.willmatters.org The episodes address questions such as …. Why and how do I pray? How does God guide us? Does God heal today? Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to spark conversation and reflection. St John’s church will be running the Alpha course on Tuesday evenings throughout the autumn term, starting on 11th October. Although we do not confess to holding all of the answers, we hope that we are able to create an environment in which anyone can ask any question without fear of judgement or embarrassment. Broadbridge Heath Parish Council www.broadbridgeheath-

The Ducky Pond had some important maintenance work carried out including trash clearance, some vegetation management to allow more light into the pond, silt moving from the bottom to the banks and also new marginals planted. A new dipping platform has been installed, which the council hopes will be used by many, including local community groups in the future. The maintenance work and the dipping platform installation was funded by housing developer contributions through planning agreements. During the works, 3 spined sticklebacks were spotted which is a positive sign of healthy water. It has been agreed by the Recreation Committee to purchase an Information Board for the pond, like the one at Top Common Nature Area which will be progressed over the coming months.

September is now upon us, the 9th month of the year! We hope residents had a safe and enjoyable August. The dry weather meant some grass-cutting was halted for a period, but August has continued to have been a busy month with some Parish Council projects finishing. Two new benches were installed on the shared footpath with plaques to commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. They can be seen from the Parish Office, so it’s been great to see them being used already!

A new noticeboard has been installed outside, and meeting agendas will now be posted here as well as the noticeboard outside the One Stop shop. Progress continues to be made on the Parish Council’s acquisitions of the parcels of land from the developers, which include the Allotment sites.

The Weston Avenue allotments are in the final stages of transfer completion, and this will be shared with those residents on the waiting list.

Although normally August sees an adjournment in meetings, the Planning Committee met and an extraordinary Full Council meeting was scheduled to allow the Council to formally respond to the Planning Applications at Lower Broadbridge Farm. Village Fete Thank you to the Broadbridge Heath Gala Association for organising a very successful Village fete. The Councillors and Officers present found it to be a positive opportunity to be able to talk to residents about matters important to them and to receive good feedback. Many frustrations shared by residents were issues which fall within the responsibility of WSCC and HDC, but other points raised will be collated and brought forward to relevant forthcoming meeting agendas. A reminder that all residents are welcome to the monthly Full Council meetings held at the Parish Office the dates and details can always be found on our Website. Work continues at the Parish Office to set it up for the officer’s workplace but also for future community events.

♦ Community “Drop in Session” with our PCSO, Adrian Bell; Tuesday 20th September between 10am 2pm at the Parish Office.

ANPR WORKS on the C622 WSCC Highways have informed the PC that they are in discussions with Videalert on the ANPR camera for finalising the install but are informed this is reliant on the new heavy duty column and electrical works, which is likely to be mid September 2022.

♦ Community Litter Picking Event; Saturday 10th September at 10am from the Parish Office.

Parish Councillor Vacancies

Dates for the diary: ♦ Cuppa & Chat with Hayley (Age UK); Tuesday 6th September 1.30-3.30pm at the Shelley Arms Pub.

The Parish Council would like to formally thank former Councillor Viv Edwards, for her dedicated and long service to the community following her recent resignation.

Councillors are elected to represent an individual geographical unit on the council, known as a ward or parish in Broadbridge Heath it is the entire parish. They are generally elected by the public every four years, but there are currently 4 vacancies on the Parish Council open for Co option. If you would like any more information or have any questions please contact Lucinda, Clerk for more information.

AN ESTIMATED 880 TONNES OF DOG POO DEPOSITED IN OUR PARKS EVERY DAY

15

Litter & Dog Fouling Love Parks Week campaign was launched in August by Keep Britain Tidy. The following was shared by their campaign;

A new survey carried out on behalf of the charity by YouGov shows that the vast majority of dog owners say that they dispose of their dog’s waste responsibly, either putting it in a bin in the park (85%) or taking it home with them (40%).

But four per cent, which equates to approximately 520,000 dog owners, admit to leaving their dog’s poo unbagged on the ground, meaning 35.3 tonnes of dog poo is left Andbehind.approximately 260,000 people leave bagged poo elsewhere (e.g. hanging from a tree, on a post, or under a bush) – equivalent to 17.7 tonnes of dog poo. This #LoveParks Week, if you care about the environment like we do, #BagItBinIt, #AnyBinWillDo. In Broadbridge Heath, the Dog Waste bins are serviced and provided by Horsham District Council. We recently worked with HDC and a new bin has been installed at the bridleway to service the open space behind the village centre. The Parish Council have also installed dog bag dispensers, one located at Charrington Way, and two at the Common. We are also putting up some more signs in the village over the coming month – a reminder to bag it and bin are looking forward to installing a new recycling bin, which is currently on order, to be located near to the Parish Office – once it’s installed, we will let residents know.

The Trusts Registration Service (TRS) is a new online service that provides a single route for trustees and personal representatives of complex estates to comply with their registration obligations under the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017. Some trusts are exempt, including pension trusts, most life policy trusts and charitable trusts, but many other trusts, including will trusts and those created for inheritance tax planning, may need to register.

BBH Mag is your village magazine for Broadbridge Heath.

Funds are often put into trust to protect them during the settlor/owner’s lifetime and to ensure their estate is securely and safely passed on. Previously a trust had to be registered if it became liable for certain taxes, but now many trusts have to register and obtain a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR).

With a 1 September 2022 deadline for the registration of trusts we have been spending time making sure that our clients are registering their trusts. Do you have any trust funds and if so have you registered them? Even if you have missed the deadline you will still need to register.
