Flavours of Plenty Festival 2025 Programme

Page 1

Welcome to the Flavours of Plenty Festival, the fourth annual celebration of the Bay of Plenty’s vibrant food scene.

This year’s theme, Edible Stories, explores the connection between food and storytelling, bringing to life the flavours, people, and traditions that make our region extraordinary. This year’s festival is packed with exciting experiences. Indulge in a Cypriot feast in a charming rural hall, get swept away at an afternoon of desserts inspired by a classic fairy tale, or tuck in at a family-friendly foodie fair by the harbour.

Rendezvous with distillers, chefs, and chocolate makers as they weave stories into their food. Join fellow foodies at degustations and explore city dining and hidden gems right across the Coastal Bay of Plenty.

We’re thrilled to bring back beloved flagship events, along with refreshing new ones that highlight local kai and international cuisine from as far afield as Japan, Italy, India, and the Cook Islands. And if you want to get hands-on, you'll have the chance to learn how to make a food forest or create your own gin using native botanicals.

We need to acknowledge the diverse and super-talented Coastal Bay of Plenty foodie sector which, alongside our Tourism Bay of Plenty team, is putting on this incredible festival. This collaborative approach to telling our food story has already been recognised with multiple awards, such as Best Lifestyle Event and Best Local Government Event at the 2023 NZEA New Zealand Event Awards, and the Industry Collaboration and Alignment Award at the 2024 New Zealand Tourism Awards. These accolades reflect the hard work of our team, the enthusiastic support of our community, and the culinary creativity in the Bay of Plenty.

With an action-packed line-up of more than 50 events, there’s something for everyone to savour this festival. So, dig in, let your taste buds take the lead, and we'll look forward to seeing you at some of these incredible events.

Bon appétit from the Tourism Bay of Plenty team.

Nō reira, nau mai e ngā hau e whā ki Flavours of Plenty Festival.

Nau mai, haere mai ki te Hui Ahurea Reka o Te Moana-a-Toi, te whakanuitanga tuawhā o te ao kai whai kiko o Te Moana-a-Toi.

Take a trip to Te Moananui ā Toi, where abundance and seasonality meet innovation and flair. Our rich horticultural history, bountiful ocean, and volcanic soils allow our region to serve up some of the freshest flavours in Aotearoa, and that’s the way it’s always been. From traditional kūmara, rīwai and kamokamo to kiwifruit, avocados and berries, our horticultural provenance has given the Bay a rightfully earned reputation for plentiful produce, and we’re not done yet. We're continuing to push the plate with truffle farms, new varieties of kiwifruit, a diverse dining scene, night markets, farmers markets, and pop-up restaurants. Paired with our deep cultural foundation of manaaki tangata (to provide and care for people), we are committed to creating unforgettable, world-class culinary experiences that weave a powerful connection from place to plate.

A panel of expert judges will determine the winner of the Judge’s Choice Award, while you can have your say by voting for your favourite dish for the People’s Choice Award. Each vote puts you in the draw to win fantastic prizes, making this competition as rewarding as it is delicious.
