TWIST ON A CLASSIC:

Champagne Bar BY AMANDA RENKIEWICZ

A chilled glass of bubbly is a New Year’s Eve classic, but to truly impress your friends, have a champagne bar! Self-serve options allow guests to replenish their glasses at their leisure, while the hostess gets credit for a stunning display. Follow these easy steps to have this trendy presentation at your next holiday bash. Step 1: Bring on the Bubbly Don’t skimp on quantity, while you can sneak in less expensive champagne! From local sparkling wines done in the Methode Champenoise fashion to medium shelf French champagnes, anything will do. Throw in an Italian prosecco for a fun option! Step 2: Bring on the Booze Dust off your bourbon and more! Vodka, gin, St. Germaine, absinthe, cognac, whiskey and flavored liqueurs can all brighten a champagne cocktail. Step 3: Mix It Up Variety is the spice of life, and it’s certainly a thrill behind a champagne bar. Some exciting mixers include sugar cubes, bitters, juices and simple syrup. Add in herbs like rosemary for a colorful effect. For a touch of glamour, have edible gold flakes or candied rose petals.

Step 4: Gorgeous Glassware Champagne flutes are classic, but never fear an array of vintage glasses of different sizes. From your grandmother’s china cabinet to local stores, find barware that speaks to you and your taste. Step 5: Garnish Dress up those cocktails with fruit! Raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, iced grapes or cranberries, and lemon twists are just some options to decorate your drink. Go out of the box with kiwi or pineapple. A hint for unforgettable fun? Pre-soak some of the fruit in a favorite spirit like vodka. Step 6: Set Up and Pop An artsy display will be well-worth the effort once your guests arrive. Set up a table with buckets of ice to chill your champagne, and place the mixers, garnishes and glassware in front. Labels for specific items are a nice touch to add in some style and flaunt your fancy! A cocktail shaker, bar spoons and small napkins complete the display. With your champagne bar ready, ring in the New Year with panache and a toast!
