Studying a world language alongside STEM provides our students with the tools to com m unicate and problem solve across the globe. By learning another language, students build em pathy for others, allowing them to understand and address global issues with their skills in innovation. Baxter?s world language educators recognize the responsibility of preparing our students to enter college and the workforce as em pathic and inform ed global citizens within our hom e com m unities and around the world. As such, language classes at Baxter are built using the latest research in language acquisition and inform ed by the proficiency levels put forth by the Am erican Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

M andarin I M AN 100, year long Introductory course for beginners em phasizing developm ent of active language learner skills. Students will becom e fam iliar with the sound landscape and cultivate a com fort with the unique intonation. Class is designed using com prehensible input (CI) prioritizing language acquisition over traditional study of gram m ar. This m ethod helps students acquire language naturally rather than learning it consciously. Introductory course for com plete beginners. Standards Assessed: PR in Interpersonal and Interpretive Com m unication.

Students develop a fam iliarity with listening and responding in the target language and continue to hone their active language learner skills.
